At this time, residents have the opportunity, at no charge, to get rid of accumulated trash, which isn't normally picked up on regular garbage days. This includes furniture, tools, branches, etc. Following is a list of regulations, concerning the pick-up, set up by the disposal company. All grass clippings, leaves, twigs, and garden debris must be in containers. Branches must be 4 feet, or less, in length, and securely tied or contained. No big rocks. Nothing heavier than two men can lift. All trash must be outside by 6 a.m. Tie or bag newspapers. The men will not do any shoveling. THEM THAR HILLS... .... is where George and Bridget Scarbrough, with children, Sherry and Steve, spent their vacation recently. The Scarbroughs traveled to the Ozarks, in Missouri, stopping at the Merrimac caverns for awhile, on the way. They didn't have much time to stay, but thought the caverns were really nice, and worthwhile seeing. On arrival at the Ozarks, the resort cabin they'd reserved was all ready for them. The week at the cabin was spent sightseeing, fishing, boating, and just taking it easy. With 80 degree temperatures every day, weather conditions were ideal. Most meals were eaten out, except when Bridget « cooked the fish they caught. She had better luck than George, catching thirteen fish, to his six. Sherry and Steve had fun playing with other kids they met at the resort. One evening the family went to a "Country Shindig" show, featuring a new country and western group, similar to t.v.'s "Hee Haw", George and Bridget considered it an excellent show, one of the best they'd ever seen. Driving homeward, the Scarbroughs topped in Hannibal for a day, where they visited Mark Twain's heme, and also saw the famed white picket fence. . When they returned home to McCullom Lake, they stayed only 4 hours, then were off to Montello, Wis., for a weekend of camping, and visiting with relatives. BIRTHDAYS A happy birthday to Denise McBride, May 17, and to Bobby Raycraft, who'll be 3 years old, • May 18. Mae Aubin celebrates her birthday, May 19, and May 20, is Denise Burg's special day. SLIMMING DOWN Karen Scarbrough is doing great with her diet, having lost 6»/s lbs., in three weeks. Her success comes from sheer will power, plus a love of radishes. CONVENTION S t u d e n t C o u n c i l representatives from Illinois Junior high schools attended a student council convention in Urbana, 111., May 3 and4. Susan Penny, of W. Lake Shore drive, and Bill Wyman, of W. Parkview, both representatives from Parkland school, were among those who attended. They left school with the other representatives Friday afternoon, and traveled by bus to Urbana, where they all stayed at the Ramada Inn. A dance was held in the evening, and the kids all went swimming afterward. Saturday was the convention, at which there were about 1,400 students. The bus, due to arrive home Saturday evening, broke down, and Bill and Sue didn't get home till about 12:30 a.m., after a hectic, but exciting weekend. REMINDER The Conservation club meets Thursday May 16, 8 p.m., at McCullom Lake village hall. LADIES OF THE LAKE An interesting variety of hobbies was displayed at the May 9 meeting of the Ladies of the Lake. Many handmade things were shown, including crocheted .items, a quilt, jewelry and an afghan. There were also sea shell sculptures, three dimensional art pictures, painted rocks, and a collection of unusual candles. The ladies were pleased to Weiqjiiie.tyo new members to their organization. They are Ruth Gumm, and Pat Schieb. It was decided the bake sale will be held July 3. The time will be set at the next meeting, June 13.
