Members stood briefly before the congregation to confess their faith in God and then knelt before the altar individually to receive the confirmation blessing from Pastor Roger W. Schneider. The service culminated two years of study for the class members who had met each week at the church to discuss the ten commandments, the Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, and the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. The group also received training in Bible history through the Bethel Bible series materials offered by the church. The members of the class will now participate regularly in the Luther league, or youth group at the church. Many activities will be provided for the youth as well as discussion groups. Some members of the senior ' confirmation class will participate in the youth services to be provided by the teen-agers for the congregation May 19 at both morning worship services. GAYLORD PHOTO Japan under act on Israel. pressure to Civil Defense Talk Awaits Medical Aides The McHenry county chapter of the American Association of Medical Assistants will hold the monthly meeting Tuesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the board room of Memorial Hospital for McHenry County in Woodstock. John Shay, director of Civil Defense for McHenry county, will be guest speaker. He will speak on "Tornado Precautions." Physician assistants, technicians, bookkeepers, secretaries and receptionists are invited to attend this informative meeting. The eighteenth annual meeting of AAMA, Illinois society was held in Belleville recently. Four members of the McHenry county chapter attended this state convention. Mrs. Orvilla Jaenicke, medical assistant for Dr. G. Sherman Porter of the McHenry Medical Group, and President of the McHenry county chapter, attended as a delegate. Miss Sue Buchert, medical assitant in the Surgery department of the McHenry Medical Group, attended as an alternate delegate. Pencil Day For Children's Home Saturday The Woodstock Children's home is counting on your generosity to make their annual Pencil day successful. Permission has been granted to have solicitors on the streets of McHenry between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18. A souvenir pencil will be given each person making a contribution. Members of the Children's Home auxiliary, church groups, friends of the home, and staff assist in solicitation during the Pencil day drive. Describe Discoveries Of Archaeology Survey Kitchen Band Gives First Season Program The McHenry Senior Citizens club kitchen band gave its first performance of this season for the mother and daughter banquet at the Nativity Lutheran church of Wonder Lake Wednesday, May 8. It was a most enthusiastic audience, consisting of ladies of all age brackets. At the conclusion of the program the band received a standing ovation, and were then served refreshments. The band has been in recess since last October, having had its first get-together May 1. They are now getting their 1974 schedule prepared. However, due to the gas situation and the advancing ages, it is necessary to limit the number of engagements, the distances to be travelled and night engagements. The band particularly likes to entertain for nursing homes, old people's homes, and church groups. All requests for the band are to be made in writing to the kitchen band secretary, Mrs. William (Lyda K.) Radisch, 1712 North Knoll avenue, McHenry. Present Drama Club Offering At East Campus The East Campus Drama Club will be presenting its version of the classic fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty" in "Sing Ho For A Prince" Friday, May 17. This is the production that the high school students have been touring with to the area grade schools for the past two weeks. The twenty-three actors, actresses and musicians, under the direction of Miss Shirley Erdei have performed for Valley View, Landmark, Montini, Johnsburg, Hilltop and Ringwood elementary schools. To date, the students have given a total of thirteen performances of "Sing Ho For A Prince". The fourteenth and final will be given at East campus beginning promptly at 8 p.m. The cast includes Pam Dorsey, Maribeth Karas, Lynne McWhinnie, Anne Palmer, Lucy Hawkins, Karen Day, Virginia Wilsman, Lisa Newport, Denise Arroyo, Kim Curry, Sally Treichel, Mary Gattone, Joy Vyduna, Jane Liptrot, Jerry Becker, Vicki Hinger, Betty Winters, Randy Blankenhorn and Maryann Smith. Providing the musical accompaniment will be Patti Althoff, Bonnie Kramer and Bob Boyle. "Sing Ho For A Prince" is about fairies, elves, princes, kings and magicians. Flint spear heads found in McHenry county show that civilization existed in the county 3,000 years before Christ. Dr. Stuart Struever, professor of Archaeology, Department of Anthropology at Northwestern University, under sponsorship of the McHenry County Conservation district, with a staff of researchers has been conducting a survey for Uje past year. On Sunday, May 19, at the annual meeting of the McHenry County Historical society, Dr. Struever will describe some of his discoveries. The meeting will start at 2 p.m. in the McHenry County Historical museum in Union. Because of limited seating space in the center of the exhibit hall (gymnasium), attendance will be limited to paid-up members of the McHenry County Historical society and special guests invited by the society's board of directors.
