The Hospital was winning as the storm hit by a score of 9 to 2, their fifth victory of the season. Tuesday The McHenry Hospital won another game over Riverside Bake Shop by a score of 13 to 10. In game one Dave Sundby had two homeruns for the Hospital while in game two the Hospital's leading hitter, Steve Major, had a perfect 4 for 4 and 'Hawk' McQueeny added 3- hits. Brake Parts and Swanson Chalet played two makeup games on Tuesday the 25th and it turned into a 'free swinging hitter's afternoon'. Both teams combined for 72 hits and 70 runs as the Chalet won two - 23 to 10 and 23 to 14. In game one the Chalet led after 3 innings 11 to 3 but 5 Brake Parts' runs in the fourth narrowed the lead to 3. The Chalet came up with eight runs in the bottom half of the fourth and 4 more were brought in on a grand slam homerun by Vic Freund in the sixth. For Brake Parts Brian Miller and John Eberle had 3 hits each with one Jim Wynveen .588 Scot Truckenbrod .588 Leading Pitchers: Bill Herrmann 4 - 0 Rob Mortell 4 - 0 Mike Nank 3 - 0 Player of the Week: Mark Thompson Somehow we didn't think Frank Justen would ever leave this earth. He was a vigorous fireball all the days we knew him. In his younger days he was a great athlete at "Old McHenry High." We remember him best in basketball. Vv'e used to gel an allowance of a dime on Friday nights and blew it all on the basketball games. Looked up an old year book of 1915-16\named "The Triton" and found Frank's picture with the school's first football team. The 1914-15 basketball squad shows Frank. Guy Bacon, Alfred "Richie" Richardson, Germer Petesch (His father owned the drug store where Bolger's now holds forth), Henry Miller, Francis Bonslett, Lester Bacon and Ed Bonslett. We think Ed Bonslett is the lone survivor of that group. In 1916 McHenry won the county championship in basketball, the team travelling by train to Crystal Lake. Coach Dorr had Frank, "Richie", Ed Bonslett, Lester Bacon and Henry Miller on that team. The County Championship was big in those days. WALSH I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. When Frank was young he could drive a horse, motorcycle or car--all fast! What we didn't know until we looked in the book - he played in "Prof" Nye's band Oh we are going to miss those visits when Frank camp back to the old home town from his home in Chowchilla, California. As Independence Day approaches, we driv° through the beautiful countryside and wonder just what can be wrong with a country like ours. We conclude that if there is anything wrong with our country it is only the fault of a few in various walks of life -- not the majority of good people. In golf news, John Busscher reports a hole in one by Ray Jemiola last Sunday. And he saved that one for tournament play. Great planning. If the Iowa team has any more players like Bill Sharp to send up to the Sox, the time is now. We can't wait for the sweet corn season. Buttered all over! hit by Miller a 3 run homer. Eberle hit a two run homer and a double while Warren Heir tripled in a run. For Swanson Chalet Vic Freund hit 2 homeruns and a double good for 7 RBI's. Rick Vycital added 4 doubles and Paul Adams had a double, triple, and homerun good for 4 RBI's. Ray Franklin had two doubles and a triple and Ed Raske scored 4 times. In game two the Chalet led after an inning and a half 10 to 0 however, Brake Parts stormed back with 9 runs in the bottom of the second to close within one run. The Chalet scored 8 runs of their own in the third, 3 more in the fourth and 2 in the fifth. Brake Parts scored 4 in the third and one in the fourth, final: 23 to 14 in favor of the Chalet. Brake Parts' John Eberle had another homerun in this contest, a solo shot leading off the second inning. L. Cavender hit a 4 run homer in the same inning; Bob Kolby and Joe Lavara added 4 hits between them. For Swanson Chalet Ed Raske went 5 for 5 scoring 5 runs while Ray Franklin added 3 doubles and a homerun in a perfect 5 for 5 game. Rick Vycital came to life with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI's going 4 for 5. Vic Freund had 4 for 5 including 3 doubles. Pat Wirtz added a two-run homer in the third inning. j American * Legion Baseball CRYSTAL LAKE ab J Johnsburg * * * * Teen League I MAJORS DIVISION The Majors" should be starting the second half of their ten game season, but due to rainy weather the past few weeks some of the teams are a few games behind These are the team standings as of June 27. s< TEAMS MANAGERS W L Dodgers Bob Uttich 5 0 Orioles Bill Koch 3 1 Padres Ron Zelinsky 2 2 Yankees Jeff Lehman 1 3 Yoyals Irwin Foote 1 3 Tigers Vince Tomasello 1 3 Bob Uttich 5119 N. Seeing their enthusiasm, determination and good sportsmanship at these games makes for a very exciting and - entertaining morning. We are still in need though of eligible girls in ,the Johnsburg area for the Senior Pigtail Division, that is, girls 10-11-12 years old. Anyone wanting more information can contact Sharon Lewis at 385-4098. We have now formed our Mother's Auxiliary and they've really started their ball rolling with a bake sale scheduled for the morning of July 13, Saturday, at both banks in McHenry and Bush Field in Johnsburg. They have also given our girls candy bars to sell door to door. Galley Rain forced a postponement of the Junior Fishing Derby last Saturday. However, during the drizzly first half hour a good number of fish were caught by those who braved the weather. Erich Grammer, age 6, won the rod and reel outfit for catching the first fish. The Junior Fishing Derby has been re scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 1974 and is open to all kids, ages 5 through 15. Registration will start at 8 a.m. Fishing will begin at 8:30 a.m., and will continue until 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded between 11 and 11:30 a.m. The derby will be held at McCullom Lake Beach (located at the end of gate 3, off McCullom Lake road). Grand prizes consist of rod and reel outfits being awarded for: first fish, longest fish, heaviest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught. Numerous other prizes will be awarded during the derby to keep competition high. So moms and dads have the kids ready, and with Mother Nature's cooperation the McHenry Area Jaycees will again host the Junior Fishing Derby. Moms and dads are also welcome to attend because fun will be had by all.
