(RT. 31) McHenry 385-7747 La Leche League Sends Delegates To Convention La Leche league of McHenry will send nine delegates to the o r g a n i z a t i o n ' s f i f t h international convention in Chicago July 11, 12 and 13. La Leche league is the international organization which offers information and encouragement to those interested in breast feeding. The convention provides an opportunity foe parents, doctors and nurses associated with the league to share information so that they can continue to give help to mothers who turn to them. "Human Milk: An unique gift of love, a natural world resource" -- theme of the convention -- is also the title of the keynote address to be delivered by Dr. Derrick Jelliffe, internationally known pediatric nutritionist. Dr. Paul Gyorgy of Philadelphia, who for many years has diligently researched mother's milk, will speak about its unique composition. These eminent physicians are members of the Professional Advisory board of La Leche League International. Other featured speakers will include Lee Salk, PhD., Dana Raphael, PhD., Maria Piers, PhD., Glenn Doman and Karen Pryor, all noted authors in the field of child development in which breast feeding can play a vital role. Susan S. James, TV star of McMillan and Wife, who is an enthusiastic nursing mother and league member, and Niles Newton, PhD., author of Family Book of Child Care, co­ author of numerous papers on breast feeding and a member of La Lee he's league professional advisory board, will spotlight the banquet as speakers. McHenry La Leche league has been active for many years, and there are also several other groups in the area. Coordinate Plans For County Queen Pageant Home-Hearth Enjoy Bohemian Cookery Lesson The "Home and Hearth" Homemakers unit met Monday, June 24, in the home of * Kathie Anderson in Wonder Lake. Fourteen members and one guest thoroughly enjoyed a lesson on "Bohemian Cookery" prepared by Mrs. Anderson and Blanche Green. Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Green also gave a brief history of the area known as "Bohemia" and its customs as background information. New officers for 1974-75 were congratulated and wished well in tl^ coming year. They are Cindy Harris, president; Joanne Liggett, vice-president; Louise Watson, secretary, and Sandy Black, treasurer. Plans are being made for the family picnic to be held July 21. Sons Richard and Ralph traveled from California and Indiana, respectively, to be with their parents for the happy occasion. Hobby-Antique Display More than 225 members were in attendance at the McHenry Senior Citizens club second June meeting which featured the annual Hobby and A ntique show as the program for the evening. It was very interesting to see the hobbies and antiques. However, women far outnumbered the men with their displays. The tfeautiful handiwork they produced demonstrated the great amount of talent among members. Alf Heggeland reported that the Art classes will continue Tuesday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Landmark school through the summer. However, the square dancers are in recess until fall. There are many activities for July. On July 8 the program will feature "Ludwig" Kalbrunner, zither player and yodeler from the Northern Chalet af Libertyville. This promises to be a very entertaining and interesting program. On July 13 is the annual picnic for members at Veterans Acres on the Crystal Lake blacktop. Everyone should bring his own lunch. Coffee and cold drinks will be provided. The committees have been working to get everything completed for the picnic. There will be prizes awarded. On July 22 the program will feature a sing-along directed by Dolly Mazzarella, with the assistance of her pianist and the cooperation of the audience. There are many activities planned for August, September and October. Make reservations promptly for the activities as several of the trips will only be able to accommodate one busload. The kitchen band is quite happy about the fact that they have made application to compete in the kitchen band contest at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. Sharon has recently been making a name for herself as a speaker In January she appeared on "What's Happening9" show on WFLD- TV (Channel 32), and in March she spoke before the Chicago Women in Broadcasting organization. In both cases she talked about how women can broaden their horizons by improving their human relations skills and attitudes. She has also appeared on "Our Town Today" show, WGN-TV (Channel 9) with Bill Berg, was a guest lecturer at Roosevelt university and Northern Illinois university, and has spoken before numerous other organizations and associations Ms. Condon is the mother of two children.
