Rusty Nail, stuck it to the Swanson Chalet'by a 16 to 6 score. Standings after May 28: TEAM W L House of David 4 o Phillip's 66 3 l , Rusty Nail 3 i Old Bridge 3 i Wetteland Decorating 2 2 S.P.A. 1 3 Pat's Den 0 4 Swanson Chalet 0 4 Wetteland Decorating almost pulled out a big win over the * league leading House of David. They took advantage of 10 errors and hit the ball well but Steve George's men rallied for 3 runs in the sixth inning to come from behind for the win. House of David made up for any deficiencies in the field with another strong offensive display. Steve Rohrer, who has hit safely 10 times in his last 10 official at bats, had 3 doubles and a homerun driving across 6 runs. Rohrer has belted 4 doubles, l triple and 4 homeruns with 15 RBI's in the last 3 games. Gene Hester, had 3 hits while Greg Freund added a double and homer with 4 RBI.'s. Dave Schaefer rturned from school to add a pair of doubles and a homerun. Pete Merkle drove in two runs with a pair of hits. Dick Doherty continued to hit well for Wetteland as he hit safely 4 times. Bryce Klontz knocked a grand slam homer besides two singles while Steve Drake hit safely 3 times. Playing manager Jim Meeker added 2 hits for Wetteland. Wetteland 010 634 000-14 House of David 403 143 00x-15 Jerry Bellak led Phillip's 66 in a big win versus Old Bridge 8 to 5. Bellak had .jhits including a triple to lead the winners. Old Bridge defense broke down while the winners played a notch above them. Matt Oik did play well at third for Old Bridge as he turned a diving catch of a line shot into a double play. Oik also had a triple, one of only 5 - team hits! Steve Salter had a two base hit and Dave Sundby added 2 more for Old Bridge^. Phillip's 66 outfield looked in great shape as they came up with a couple of nice plays as their whole team defense looked better. Old Bridge 000 301 100-5 Phillip's 66 003 221 00x-8 S.P.A. played Pat's Den in a battle between the two newest entries in the league. S.P.A. took the upper hand with the help of a big 9 run third inning and won 24 to 11. Larry Dohr had 5 hits including a homerun with 3 RBI's to lead all hitters. His brother Bob added a pair of doubles and 4 RBI's to lead all hitters. His brother Bob added a pair of doubles and 4 RBI:S for the winning S.P.A. Also for the winners Ed Kaminsky drove in 6 runs with 4 hits including a grand slam homer. Pete Scurto had 3 hits including a double and homerun and Bob Klawitz had 3 hits. For Pat's Den Rick Kuper had 3 hits including a double while Dick Hauser added a double and homerun. Dick Stroening added another homerun for Pat's Den. Pat's Den 001 331 300-11 S.P.A. 009 233 34X-24 Rusty Nail took advantage of 10 Chalet errors and whipped Swanson Chalet 16 to 6. Gary Miller pitched and hit his way to the victory as he safely hit 3 times including a 3 run homer. A1 Elliot ^iad a double and homerun, and drove in two runs while Leon Schmitt added a solo homerun in the second inning. Brother Gary Schmitt belted a ball about as far as anyone in the league with a tape measure shot to straight away right. Schmitt, Jim Lay and Len Ackerman each hit safely twice. The Nail's big hitter, Kevin Bauer, was shut out 5 straight times as a result of the "BAUER SHIFT". Bauer reached first only as the result of a fielder's chice!! For Swanson Chalet Ed Raske hit his second homerun of the season in going 2 for 4. Marty Sobczak homered and Dan Stanowski added 2 hits for the losers. Defense again • looked poor for Swanson, as time and time again they blew opportunities for double plays which resulted in too many unearned runs and in general looked as good as their record shows~0 and 4. June 6,1975) By Liz Nolan The ladies at McHenry Country Club must be living right. Squeezed in between the rainy days, Tuesday, the third, dawned bright and sunny with fluffy white clouds dotting the blue skies above. Good weather and flag Day Tournament competition brought out the best in a number of the gals as witnessed by much of the scoring. Really getting into the swing of things Esther Jemiola won first place in Class C with a net 81. How about that? In Class B Katherine Bolger showed her competitive spirit by taking first place with a new 84. And, in Class A, Lee Cooney's lovely lady, Carol, led all the way, taking a net 75 to capture first place. Second low net in the various classes went to Joanie Buss in A with net 77, Myrt Johnson in B with net 86 and Virginia Spengel in C with 86. Birdie shots were reported by Millie Leisten on 14 and by Carol Cooney on 6 and 14. On the greens to score low putts were Evie Guntner in Class C .with 32, Myrt Johnson and Catherine Bolger tying in Class A with 29 each. Somewhere on the fifth or sixth hole Maddie Holmes lost her nine iron. Undaunted by the loss, she borrowed a golfmate's nine and promptly sank her approach. Ah, well, some people can just cope! Not born under the same lucky star, apparently, Letty Busscher earned the new nickname of "Sandy". Traps do exist on the course and "Sandy" found herself in a few of them Tuesday. She's a good sport, though, and knows better days are coming. Thinking back to chip shots, the week before Marilyn Reihansperger had a beauty of a long one but forgot, to let everyone know. Now everyone does. The Nifty Niners had another great turnout and found Jo Rizzo taking first place with a 67, followed by Dolores Chellini with a 70. Dorothy Flynn and Lorraine Young wound up tying for low putts with 16 each. The rumor that's around is that it was Lorraine's turn to be all wet - dumped three balls into the creek. Oh, my! And in their special event of the day Toots Gerstad and Dolores Chellini tied for low net with 33 each. It was a great day for ties! Next week the Nifties will be w 1 4 0 0 4 2 2 2 2 State Farm Ins. The girls enjoy the games and the much needed benches at Whispering Oaks were supplied ,• this year by the city of McHenry. The games start at 6:30 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 on Saturday mornings. shooting for Most Under Par. On Monday, the second of June, four of McHenry's for mer lady champions travelled to St. Andrews Country Club in West Chicago to participate in the eleventh annual Tour- tnament of Champions. They were Carol Cooney, Dolores Overton, Floss O'Connell and Lil Michaels. To keep McHenry on the map Floss came in 3rd low net with a net of 77. Very nice going, Floss. We're all proud of you. On the reminder list are two happenings in the offing. Plans are well under way for the annual Hullabaloo event, scheduled this year for July 29. The gals will have the op portunity to invite guests this year and details will be posted in the ladies' lounge. Please check and plan. And of im portance to the future of women's golf is the Junior Golf which will be starting June 23, under the guidance of Marilyn Bishoff and Carol Cooney. Started three years ago at the suggestion of Virginia Spengel, Junior Golf is an ongoing plan to help promote and encourage young girls in the enjoyment and play of golf. So, if you have a daughter who is under 16 who thinks she might be interested in the sport, have her come out and join the other young*' misses. She'll enjoy. In the" meantime, swing happy! Flight 2 winners were Jack Smithson, Don Hojnacki, Bill Funk, Dick Freund, John Steinbach, Cy Carlson, Hal Nilles and Pat Lawler. Bob Schmaling, Fred Ballstaedt, Emil Simon, Ralph Smith, Dick Dixon, Ed Schuler, Jerry Harping and Tom Burke were winners in Flight 3. While in Flight 4 winners were Ed (Ace) Oja, Jim Kenton, Doc Carelli, S. Lupo, Harold Young, Don Wattles, Jim Gillette and Ray Jemiola. Second round of the Directors Tournament will be played at the club on June 8. Members are urged to sign up for the Candlelight Dinner dance to be held at the club on Sat., June 14th. "HOW TIME FLYS DEPT." - Our city's new Treasurer, Bill Brda used to caddy for yours truly, shall we say quite a few years ago. My caddy on last Sunday was Bill's young son Bruce who I might add did a great job what with the rain that hit the area on several occasions last Sunday. Hope S.I.H. doesn't read this, wouldn't want him to think I go back that far. PROMISE AREA RTA BENEFITS The far reaching proposals which the board said "would have significant impact on all parts of the area", were presented by the RTA staff a^a broad meeting in the La Salle hotel.
