MAIN 385-0294 Blood Program Covers All Every resident of McHenry county is covered by the blood assurance program for McHenry county through a program affiliated with the Aurora Blood Bank. This means that every resident of the county is covered anywhere in the United States when he or she needs blood. Residents of McHenry county are covered by the program whether they have given or not. Under the program the recipient does not have to worry about finding blood donors to replace the blood. The only cost is the administration of the blood itself. Blood drives make the blood assurance program possible. They are needed to have the blood on hand when it is needed, and to replace the blood that is used. The blood assurance program can only work this way. If a resident of McHenry county has an accident or an operation and needs blood, and he is out of the county area, all the patient needs to do is contact the city clerk's office, giving patient's name, address, name of hospital, when the blood was received and how much blood was used. Proper authorities are then notified and the blood can then be replaced. The next blood drive is June 18 at the \fsF.W. in McHenry from 3:20 to 7:20 p.m. About forty people who would sign up four donors for each drive are needed. Anyone who can help should contact the chairman, Don Virgens. Five blood drives a year are planned, each to be held at the V.F.W. clubhouse in McHenry. Each drive will be on a Thursday from 3:20 to 7:20 except the first, which is Wednesday, the eighteenth. WELL DRILLING & WATER PUMPS U I E ' R E B U R S T I H C H T T H E S E R R I S ! And to help prevent these ac cidents, the Department of Labor, through the Oc cupational Safety and Health act (OSHA), has announced a new standard for roll-over protective structures (ROPS), says O.L. Hogsett, University of Illinois Extension safety specialist. ^ All agricultural tractors over 2 0 - e n g i n e h o r s e p o w e r manufactured after Oct. 25, 1976, and operated by em ployees must be equipped with roll-over protective standards (ROPS) and seat belts that meet the requirements of the new standard. All employees must use the seat belt. Low-profile tractors are exempt from ROPS requirements when they are used in orchards, vineyards, hop yards and in farm buildings and greenhouses. A low-profile tractor has the following characteristics: - front-wheel spacing is equal to real-wheel spacing; -clearance from the bottom of the tractor to the ground does not exceed 18 inches; -highest point of the hood is not more than 60 inches above the groun; -driver straddles the tran smission when seated. Other tractors are exempt when mounted equipment for specialized jobs is incompatible with ROPS, such as cotton pickers, or mounted corn pickers. Teh roll-over equip ment may be removed, but it m u s t b e r e m o u n t e d i m mediately after the special use.
