PAGE 6 - PLA1NDEALER-WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11, 1975 U was sheer joy as we styjped through the gates at the White Sox ball park Saturday night. Jake me out to the ball game --vThat's just what our friend Jofc Etten did for the Walshes of Gijeen St. t 4 i •rt was the night when Old iers of White Sox fame played the preliminary game aj^iinst Old Timers of Yankee fqjne. 'jNick Etten, the pride of Spring Grove, Chicago and ppints north, south, east and v^st, was on first base as in the glyrv days when he hammered tfoe ball for the Yankees. Then came the regular game. Nuts! Pat Dobson allowed the Sox only 6 hits and 3 of those rattled off the bat of Bucky Dent. Now, there's a ball player. Bill Melton, who was sup posed to be the power man of the Sox this year, had a bad night as the designated hitter. He should elect to go back to the minors for a stretch to get back in form. It isn't good to hear the fans boo a guy who not too long ago was the toast of the town. On the way out, some fellow with a strong voice yelled, "Anybody want a Bill Melton autograph9" *AVe forgot to ask Nick if that \\£is his old uniform. (Maybe it sketched a lot through the years). George Orta pulled a couple of boo-boos that a kid next to us called "dumb plays". For our part, it was d-- Yankees all the way. Most of the Etten clan was there -- Nick's friendly wife -- toe Bill Ettens - The Etten the younger -- Young Joe and $ster generation ras pals. * Nellie Fox and Minnie Ityinoso drew tremendous fjjinds from those who either npmembered or had heard tales ofr their greatness. A The old boys made some good Slays and showed good arms as ley threw out the runners going uphill to first base. Forgot to mention a call from Don Hones and Jim Larkin at the VFW on the night of the now famous "Roasting Party". Jim was on a fishing trip at Don's Happy Landing. 'Twas very much appreciated. It is amusing to observe how some politicians are working toward the next election by relating the faults of the other tfuv. Reminds of the time a can didate tried to get our vote by bringing in religion. We voted for the other guy. a CONGRATULATIONS DON! Let me be the first to shake your hand Don, for a job well done. Think Snowmobile Safety Melvin F.O. Blaurock, Jr. Publicity Chairman Pistakee Ladies Golf League fxru~Lru~»^Vi'̂ -- Thursday, June 5, marked the first day of official play with Jo Ready carding a low 37 followed by Lorraine Houda with a 38. Lorrie chipped in a beauty on No. 7. Watch these girls, they are really good. Pat Barber is in the market for a new 4 wood. A tree took its toll. Dor Kreamcheck chipped in a nice one on No. 4 to luck out a six! Thanks to the rest of the girls on Team No. 1 - Georgette Calcese, Agatha Droham, Jo Ready, they are leading with 3 points. Team No. 5, Capt. Ethel Broderich, Sarah Maniscalco, Maggie Molidor and Dorothea Shogren came in second with 24 points. Harry Neilsen and his lovely wife Sophie are proud of the girjs for not only playing good but looking good too. The girls have been putting in a lot of practice to play but Ellen Leonard says she really doesn't like to play alone. She is a little apprehensive about making a hole in one! We should all think like that. Right?! There is no better way to begin a baseball season than by winning your first game, and that's exactly what the McHenry Post 491 American Legion team did at Woodstock Sunday afternoon. The big hitters for the day were Pat Stanek, Joel Wakitsch and Steve Mai. Each boy collected 2 hits and drove in McHenry's runs as they defeated Woodstock 6-1. Tommy Ludwig did the pitching for the local team and allowed Woodstock 6 hits and 1 walk. Wertz, Rowley and Sahs collected extra-base hits for Woodstock. McHenry's big inning came in the 2nd when Dale Urbanski reached second base on an error by the right fielder and was driven home by a single to right by Pat Stanek. Steve Mai followed with a single to center, driving in the second run. Joel Wakitsch singled and both he and Steve Mai scored after balls hit by Tony Cristy and Bill Jaskowiak were mishandled. McHenry added single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings which was enough scoring punch on this day because of the fine heads-up defensive play of the McHenry nine along with a well-pitched game by Tom Ludwig.
