Kaumbera said the officer got out of his van and pointed a ° gun through the window at him. He said Blue told him he wa^a\ police officer and Kaumbera sday morning, June 26, in should get out of his truck. The three- Murder Charges Against Four In Brother's Death Murder charges were filed Thursday by the office of the McHenry county state's at torney, naming four Alfaro brothers. They are accused of killing a fifth brother, Rogelio S. Alfaro, 32, of Elgin. /The latter died early Thur- but never got any so he figured the man was not a policeman. Kaumbera said the man told him not to drive away or he would shoot. Kaumbera said he "was scared" when he saw the gun. He put his truck in gear and '.'look off'. As he got onto* the highway, he saw the squad car and went for help. Kaumbera said he told the uniformed policeman that there was a "kook" after him with a gun who said he was a police officer but would not show any iden tification. Mrs. Krich testified she and her husband had an argument^ at a tavern in Lakerpoor and he leftJme premises. The bar- tend^arrangejd for Kaumbera to give her a ride home. She noticed they' ^ere being followed while north-bound on Route 31, by some vehicle which she later learned was?a van. The vehicle continued behind them into Lakeland Park. She told Kaumbpra to stop in the road in front of her home and she would get out quickly and he could continue on. In her haste to leave the truck, she fell stepping out and landed on the ground. The truck pulled away, she got up, went into the house and went to bed, she said. Sgt Lange told the com mission that he detected the odor of alcohol coming from both Blue and Kaumbera. However, both were "quite capable of driving a motor vehicle" and appeared to be just/^feeling good". Attorney O'Grady called several of Blue's fellow officers to the stand to testify that Blue had been a good officer in the past and was capable of learning. However, Sgt. Robert Michelsen, LI. Robert Kranz, Detective Sgt. Daniel Kinnerk and Sgt. Lange did state that the matter was not handled in GARAGE SALE Basement Sale. 2614 Sterling Drive, McHenry. "We do not want to spoil the traditional patriotic fun of the Fourth," says Virginia S. Boyce, executive director of the s i g h t c o n s e r v a t i o n organization, "but we strongly urge that use of all fireworks be confined to licensed public displays. * i "Every year, the society receives far too many reports I of eyes injured from the use of fireworks, even in states where they have been outlawed. Many of the injured are children. "The U.S. Consumer Product Safety commission, since 1973 the federal agency responsible . for consumer safety, has not yet come up with what the society, and allied organizations concerned with personal safety, consider to be effective regulations," says Mrs. Boyce. "However, we qan't help but believe that the commission is working toward improved controls." Although the larger "Class B" fireworks have been federally banned for some time, the more common "Class C" devices are responsible for a tremendous nurfiber of in juries, an estimated 3,000 during last year's holiday season. j Among the fireuwks iden tified as "Class c\are small firecrakcers (112 inches long or smaller), sparklers, fountains, Roman candles and similar items. Because all pyrotechnic devices are inherently dangergus, there is no truly safe way to use them, Mrs. Boyce points out. The society makes a special plea to parents to see that -their children are not permitted to use, fireworks of any kind, and to keep their children away from anyone who does. Frequently, the innocent bystander gets hurt. It is hard for children to recognize the danger in anything they see as "fun", so it is^up to adults to take the responsibility. Celebrate the Fourth, the society says, but celebrate it safely. Vision is pricelss...don't lake needless chances with it.
