Old Bridge climbed back to the top with 11 to 6 and 20 to 8 victories over Swanson Chalet. Meanwhile the House of David won two; a thrilling 3-2 first game over Phillip's 66 followed by a 13-1 drubbing of the slipping 66'ers. Rusty Nail needed 8 innings to overcome a spirited S P A. team. The second game did not work out as well for the Nail as S.P.A.. put on a hitting display and wound up the winners 14 to 3. Dave Sundby had a 3 run homer and Pete Smith added a solo homerun As a matter of fact only two ball players did not hit safetly as Old Bridge hit safely 24 times. Swanson Chalet was led by first baseman Bill Rudolph who had 3 hits including the homerun and 5 RBI's. Paul Adams had 3 hits also as well as a 3 run homer in the 4th inning. Bob Freund added twfe hits for the Chalet. House of David squeaked by Phillip's 66 3 to 2 in game one. judd Decker walked in thejirst inning followed by John Pit- zen's single and Gene Hester's sacrifice fly to account for the first "David" run. Phillip's 66 tied it when Buss singled and Gene Anderson tripled him in. Steve George started things in the bottom of the third inning with a single. A "66 " error and Greg Freund's single made it 2- 1. Phillip's came back in the next inning with the tying run as Jerry Bellak singled and advanced to home with the aid of singles by Jack Adams and Rich Simmons. The winning run was scored when Steve George again singled^ and following Decker's single, which was momentarily hobbled, George scored. three times. Dan Gerdt, Janik, Hester, Hovseth and Judd Decker all had 2 hits each. Jack Adams had a pair of hits for Phillip's <66 as their bats were pretty much silent. In game one Anderson, Bellak, Adarns and Simmons all went 2 for 3 for Phillip's 66. v An extra-inning game took place -between S P A. and Rysty Nail with The Nail overcoming an earlier 8th inning homerun to win 7 to>6 in the bottom half of the same inning. Charley Sauers led the way, hitting 4 for 4 with a pair,^ of doubles and batting in the tying run in the final inning. Mike Thrones had a perfect 3 for 3 while. Rich Mueller and Gary Busse added 2 hits each. For S P A. Bob Klewitz went 4 for 4 while Pete Scurto, Ed Kaminske and Pete Mahoney all had two hits each. One of Scurto's hits was the solo homerun in the eighth inning which for a brief moment looked like the winning run. For Rusty Nail the bats were silent in game two. They scored three runs in the 5th on an error, Charly Brown's single, and another error and Len Ackermann's 2 run double. The game is presently under protest with Rusty Nail Manager Kevin Bauer protesting a 5th inning call an illegal baserunning by the S P A.
