The recent legislature passed an act increasing jurors pay and Gov. Small signed the measure and the law isnow in effect as of July 1. « "Jack" Stenger, 2»2 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C*W. Stenger, was struck by a car as he attempted to cross Main street. Two local physicians were summoned and. reported that Jack was badly bruised on the face and body. He had received no seribus injuries. Miss Rosena Freund of the Home Insurance company of Chicago is spending her vacation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Freund. Restaurant and residence for sale on account of poor health. Mrs. J. Niesen, McHenry, 111. Arthur Ernest Jackobsen of Chicago who was spending the day Monday with three com panions along the Fox River was instantly killed during the severe storm by a bolt of lightning. He had been swimming and was sitting on the side of the bed getting dressed when he was struck and killed instantly. The sale of lots in the new Oakhurst subdivision which was advertised throughout the county for July 3, 4 and 5 proved to be a great success. Oakhurst derived its name from the wonderful oak trees that cover each lot. Every lot has at least eight beautiful oak trees. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of July 11, 1935) Richard Henry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wohlert who reside on Waukegan street, is .he first baby to have been born in July, arriving just three hours and ten minutes after midnight on July 1, and he and his parents will receive the many lovely gifts offered by local merchants to the first baby to be born each month. Scouts Jack Hess, Bruce Klontz and Harold Taxman have been given the honor of representing Troop 162 at the Great National Scout Jam boree, to be held in Washington the last ten days of August when 30.000 Scouts from all parts of the country will be encamped at the nation's capitol, the greatest boy get- together in American history. An occasion which proved to be an unusually happy one was the reunion of the classes of 1920 and 1921 of. the McHenry community high school held at Bickler's hotel Sunday evening. Mrs. Walter Carey and Mrs. Albert Woll were hostesses at the reunion with George Barbian as toastmaster. Six teen classmates gathered to spend the evening together for the first time in fifteen years with six members of the cla^ss of 1921 and ten of the class of 1920. A pretty midsummer wed ding took place at St. John's church, Johnsburg, July 9, when Miss Elizabeth Nett of Johnsburg and Mr. George Hass of McHenry were united in marriage. Mrs. John Ratcliffe and daughter of Boston, Mass., are visiting her sister, Mrs. H.C. Hughes. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of July 20, 1950) Last Saturday and Sunday open house was held at the Feltz home on Waukegan street, honoring Mrs. Minnie Block on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday anniversary. Clnaude's Count V.D. Karlo, one of the young boxer dogs of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fischer of Country club subdivision took honors at the "sanction match" held in Elgin sponsored by the Fox Valley Kennel club. Karlo was declared by the judges as best in breed and also took third place in his group working dogs. Since the last meeting of the pre-teen club a very lovely group of dolls has been on ^ display at the Toddler Shop. They are from the collection of thirty belonging to Donna Dowe which she had been collecting since early childhood, one in particular which attracts at tention is an imported doll brought to Donna from Paris, France- Johnnie Simon was selected to reign over Marine Day festivities as the second annual queen. She succeeds Miss Patricia Gilmore of Lity Lake* who captured the title last year. A memorial trip abroad to the home of his birth ended recently for Peter Sokol, who has returned to Island Lake after a month's visit ^ith relatives and friends in his native Poland, The plane trip overseas took only twenty hours of flying time. Construction is. starting on the Wonder Lake Firehouse and it will soon be a reality. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. L.M. Keenan has been .transferred from St. Joseph's parish by the bishop of^the RockfOrd diocese. The Rev. Joseph Healy, Cherry Valley, who has been in charge of St. Jymes church, Rockford. succeeds Msgr. McHenry was the sixth stop of the bus earring the large group after leaving Oregon where all attended high school last ye&r.
