* PAGE 6LAIN DEALER - WEDNESDAY, JULY 9.1975 Wonder Lake Tennis Boosters Will Meet EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. Biff Meyer sent a clipping "SOX WIN NO. 8" and added a note "What can I say -- You have us over a barrel." Roll outthe barrel, Biff. Suppose we will see you and Rsther Marine Day. We can settle all problems that day. Football games in July. That's too much. Every man to his own taste. We'll take our football in the fall. Ice boating in August doesn't hit us right either. Had a pleasant time at McHenry Country Club the night of the Fourth and had a new waitress look at us in astonishment and say, "You look much younger than you do in that picture with a hat." Now, that's the kind of a girl we like. Get out that camera, Wayne Gay lord. You are the one who talked us into the hat picture. What goes with those Cubs? They look miserable on the road, then came back to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field and win a double header from the hard hitting Pirates. Maybe they use their second team on the road. , DEEP FINANCING: Four won^en at a table in a ; restaurant when the waitress puts it all orfpne check. callers who sounded better. Cubs 12 - Pittsburgh 18 Three touchdowns to two -- no extra points. No kickers. Just thinking of one of the things we were never able to accomplish. Our Dad could cup his big hands and light his pipe or cigar in a tornado. And with one match. There is every sign that our White Sox are building for next year. That's an old familiar tune. The Wonder Lake Tennis Boosters will meet at 8:00 Thursday night, July 10, in the L.R.C.at Harrison school. Representatives from each subdivision will be asked to attend and other interested Wonder Lakers invited to come. The agenda for the meeting includes discussion of filing for non-profit organization status, fund raising projects and setting a date for door-to-door collection. Many people have dropped their change in our collection cans found in local stores. Anyone interested in our cause or having any questions may call Karen Utes, 653-9824. Demolition Derby At County Fair Aug^3 Our contributors still try to slide in promotions for raffles in news stories. It's agin' the law. No way can we let them „ get into print. Sometimes, quite often in fact, they ring.in advertising of different kinds or thank you notes. That's another No-No. We don't mess with the ad vertising department. Our ducks have ducked away. Must be too dry around our back forty. Just watched a small female singer on TV. She has quite a wiggle. That seems to be part of the act. But, my oh my that voice! She has two pitches, loud and louder. We've heard hog Now is the time to watch for the sales in McHenry. Sidewalk sale Saturday should bring big crowds. It is Marine - Fiesta week with all the whoop'dee-do of entertainment. Many shops where they sell' ladies dresses and all those other little items have chairs for tired, impatient husbands. Our plan is to carry a camp stool with us - just in case. FAMOUS LAST WORDS: Hot. humid, possible showers. There will be a full in vestigation. -- A-* The famous Nation-Wide Demolition Derby is coming to McHenry County Fair on Sunday Aug. 3. Expert "Gear Jammers" and ' 'Throttle Benders" will stage deliberate crashes. Men and women with plenty of nerve and a lust for thrills will compete for the cash prize and trophies. * The participants must supply their own cars. The car must be equipped with a safety seat belt, and the driver must wear an approved crash helmet. Official rules and entry blanks may be obtained from the fair office on the fairgrounds; „ from Jim Pedersen; or from many gas stations and garages in the county. All participants must be over 21 or have a notarized release signed by their parents. Only American-made, hardtop automobiles are eligible. No special bumpers or reinforcements will be per mitted. The spectators are urged to cheer for their favorite drivers. The event has been described by one newspaper editor as the "Wildest", most spectacular sporting event in the world. Because of the nature of the event, no spectators will be permitted in the infield. Therefore, they are urged by officials to come early to get a choice seat in the grandstand. All the excitement gets under way at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 when the McHenry County Fair presents the deadly and dangerous Demolition Derby. Wonder Lake Team In Lake Zurich Youth All-Star Tourney The annual Lake Zurich Youth Baseball Association major league all-star tour nament will get under way in Lake Zurich's Lions' field Monday, July 28, with a double header featuring Lake Zurich vs. Lake-in-the-Hills and Wonder Lake vs. Barrington. In other first round action Tuesday, July 29, Cary will face Tsalnd Lake and Spring Lake will meet Fox River Grove. The dates and pairings were announced by Gerald Greaves, LZYBA tournament director. The stars are selected by a vote of major league managers and coaches, according to Bob Johnson, LZYBA president. That guts Hettermanns into a tie for 1st place with Apple Inn with a record of 10 wins and 2 losses. Thursday night it was doubtful if we would get in any games, but we were lucky to get in one game. It rained throughout the game but Old Bridge and Hautzinger con crete played through it and Hautzinger concrete ended up winning the game by the score of 10-2. The standings up to July 3, 1975 are as follows: CHEERLEADERS Left to right, front row - Kim Curry, Cathy Pintozzi, Patty Santi and Karen Day. Back row - Doreen Sturm, Kristy Day and Dawn Welch. The girls represented McHenry through five days of camp and competition along with 65 other squads. The daytime camp sessions included workshops for lear ning cheers, tumbling, pom pom routines and afternoon lectures. Night sessions were set aside for competition of what had been learned during the day. Both the basketball and wrestling (combined for football) squads did very good at competition. Three out of four nights both squads received blue superior ribbons. The spirit stick, which is considered by the instructors as the most important award. was awarded to both squads every single night. One night was skit night. Our skit was worked around the expert baton twirling of Dawn Welch and was a real hit. Another honor for our squad was received when Kristy Day was chosen to model for the Cheerleader's Fashion show. At the end of the week ten squads are chosen to compete for the Award of Excellence. McHenry's basketball squad was, chosen for this com petition. Joliet Catholic won the award. Camp ended with twelve tired but happy girls who had made many friends, learned many new things and had done an outstanding job in representing McHenry. WowDf*. LAX! flotilla t-fc USC&. At/*. Norton's car (suffered steering failure as he roared down the straightaway for the start of the 15-lap main event and his car roared straight pff the end of the track. Norton barely got the car stopped -before it (fame to a massive steel retaining rail. "I was lucky that I qualified well," he said later. "I was at the very back of the starting field, and so I didn't have a lot of cars around me when the steering went out. If I had been in the middle of the pack, there would probably have been a serious pileup". Sid's brother Duke, of nearby Wonder Lake, went on to win the hard-fought contest, nosing out the car of Chuck Ostergaard of Woodworth, Wis., on the final straightaway after trying for six laps to get past him. / COURTHOUSE SQUARES v , S&o MEN, LIKE TACKS, ARE USEFUL /F THEY HAVE GOOD HEAPS AND ARE POINTED FORMAL WEAR RENTAL for { ALL OCCASIONS OS St f/yi nw 1214 N.
