Outside House Paint McHenry has an Old Timer whom we didn't realize was up in the years -- 86 -- Earl Brown. Earl was recalling the days when the local jail was referred to as the calaboose. Hadn't heard that name in a long time. An old item in our scrap book tells how there was some in dignation about raising World Series tickets to $1.50 back in 1906. That was the year when a team from Chicago's north side was 3 to 1 in the betting to clobber a certain team from the south side called the "Hitless Wonders." The rest is history, but the south side bettors put a lot of doe-rae-me (Our own spelling) in their money belts. SPORTS EDITOR--I And how we have dreamed of another All-Chicago World Series! There have been times when Junior Freund was a frequent caller. Herb Reihansperger wasn't far behind (but more belittlin') This week we got worried about Junior so inquired. Learned that he has gone to Kokomungo or someplace until the baseball season is over. Think we saw Herb driving through town, but he wasn't looking from side to side. One good note - we drive through the countryside quite We were wondering if it isn't about time for the annual chicken barbecue at the Ringwood United Methodist Church. Now we know. One of our faithful readers, Katy Christopher, tells us July 20th is the date. She thinks the men will be rushing to get tickets to take the little women out to dinner. From the past experience We know it is a good idea to get tickets in advance. If you don't know where to get them, we'll tell you. We can't advertise the price in this column, but can tell you to call 385-4118, 653-3661 or 728-0295. If you don't get results, write to your congressman. We enjoy those dinners not only for the chicken (prepared by the men), but the fun of meeting old friends.
