McHenry Country Club By John Busscher Don Hojnacki fired a fine 73 to defeat Chris Newkirk in the final round in class A in the President's Tournament played at the club on Sunday, July 20. In class B John Falcon beat Hank Lejsten in a well played hard foUght match that was not decided until the final hole. Ed Schuler defeated Terry Remke on the 19th hole in class C as Terry's putter failed him throughout the match. In class D, Jim Gillette beat Paul Fidler in a match that ended on the 15th hole. Paul fought gamely but giving six shots to a hot Jim was too much for Paul to overcome. Oriental Palace Fire May Result In Total Loss * Saturday morning about 3:45, a passing motorist notified a sheriff's deputy on patrol in Richmond, that there was a fire at the Oriental Palace restaurant, 8603 Route 12, Rich­ mond. On arrival at the scene, Deputy Glenn Olson discovered a fire near the roof area at the main entrance. The Richmond Fire department was sum­ moned and Deputy Olson en­ tered the establishment to determine if anyone was inside. He found four members of the Chong family, operators of th£ business place, who were sleeping inside, and escorted them to safety. Cause of the fire was not determined at the time, but it is believed that structural damage caused by the fire would result in a total loss of the building. Lake Legion, Auxiliary Will Install Officers The American Legion and Auxiliary of Post 1169 of Wonder Lake held a special meeting recently to finalize plans for the installation of the newly elected officers for the year 1975-76. Officers of the post to be installed are James Hales, commander; Kenneth Wakeham, senior vice- commander; Ted Fuss, junior vice-commander; Wilbur Haak, adjutant; Wally Vltavsky, finance officer,^ohn Eberle, Jr., chaplain; Richard Gonzales, sergeant-at-arms. Auxiliary officers to be in­ stalled are Marge Hartung; president; Marie Bendl, first vice-president; Nancy Hales, second vice-president; Lois Haak, treasurer, Louise Sineni, secretary ; Jeanette Wakeham, historian, Lorraine Fedejelem, chaplain; and Delores Fuss, sergeant-at-arms. Numerous Crashes Result In Injuries And Tickets PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, JULY 25, 1975 A three-car chain reaction collision at the intersection of Maple and Freund avenues last Friday afternoon slightly in­ jured two women. Mrs. Vic^ toria Kerechek of 3723 W. Grand avenue and her passenger, Mrs. Margaret Smith of 3804 W. Maple avenue, both of McHenry, were taken to McHenry hospital for treat­ ment of their injuries by the rescue squad. According to city police, Mrs. Kerechek had stopped on Maple to allow Mrs. Smith to leave her car when the vehicle was hit from behind by a car driven by Mrs. Louise M. Smith of 3703 W. Maple avenue, McHenry. Mrs. Smith's auto was pushed into the Kerechek vehicle after it was hit by a car in back of it driven by Mrs. Mary B. Idstein of 1003 W. Florence drive, McHenry. Fifteen-year-old Lori L. Johnson of 4509 Garden Quarter, McHenry, was taken to McHenry hospital by the McHenry Rescue squad after the bike she was riding collided with an auto driven by Charles Grantham of 311 Shepherd Hill, McHenry. The mishap oc­ curred last Monday afternoon about 12:30 at 4411 W. Route 120. The police report indicated Miss Johnson was crossing the highway from north to south. When she arrived at the east- bound lanes of traffic, the in­ side lane stopped for her to cross. She failed to see the Grantham car approaching in the outside lane and ran into the side of his car. The Sheriff's police report indicates Cusack was east- bound on Ames and failed to see the stop sign at the intersection until it was too late to stop. Frederick Fritz of 5106 Strong street, Chicago, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after he hit the rear of a car driven by Martha C'ieslak of 7316 Wooded Shores, Wonder Lake. The accident occurred Sunday afternoon on Route 14 near Lembert road. Ms. Cieslak stated she was east-bound on Route 14 when she saw a rubber tire in her lane of traffic.
