Bill Blankenhorn Athletic Director Season Athletic Tickets At East And West After Aug. 15 FIRST THINGS FIRST... Everybody thinks of changing humanity and nobody thinks of changing himself. « Leo Tolstoy GOD S MESSAGE... Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man. Rabindranath Tagore There is only way in which one can endure man's inhumanity to man and that is, to try in one's own life to exemplify man's humanity to man. Alan Paton Local talent continues to please the crowds gathered in the park for the band concerts on Thursday nights. The ever popular Mary Ann Wegener sang some nice songs for the crowd last week to add much to the concert. Her accompanist was that girl who knows her way around the keyboard, Mary Ann Sharp. A great combination. Maybe we should withdraw our order for World Series tickets in Chicago?? McHenry High School will again make available. to its sports fans season tickets at a substantial savings. Also available are student activity tickets and a season family ticket good for all sports. As in past years a season family ticket for a single game can be purchased at the gate. On all season tickets, the family must enter as a group. Preparations are underway for the second annual McHenry Marathon which will be held Monday evening, August 11th. The Marathon is a long distance run of approximately eight miles between McHenry and Johnsburg. Last year's contest was an interesting event for spectators as well as participants. An eight mile run is a challenging mixture of speed, strategy, and most of all endurance. A new wrinkle this year which promises to add to the ex citement is a category for those who are "over 30". Participants will be able to register in the Pearl Street Park from 6:00 P.M. to 6:25 p.m. The race will begin promptly at 6:30 P.M. A nominal participation fee will be charged to help defray expenses. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the first five finishers in each of these divisions:' 1. Grade School 2. Incoming high school freshmen and sophomores. 3. Incoming high school juniors and seniors. 4. Open division for anyone. 5. 30 years old or older. Runners will be permitted to compete in only 1 division^ Participation ribbons will be given to any boy, girl, man or woman who finishes the race. Even though they will com pete separately, all four divisions will run together. Grade school age participants will only run as far as John sburg, a distance of ap proximately 4 miles. Tran sportation will be provided to return them to McHenry. Bill Hutchinson, Cross Country Coach at McHenry High School is managing the event again this year for the City of McHenry. Last year's Marathon was won by Alex Thomas of McHenry in the excellent time of 38 minutes and 7 seconds. A young lady, Tracy Weber, surprised everyone by beating all challengers in the grade school division. Tim Oakley and John Mclnerney won the 2 high MVIwsy /bw 7?CUTi? Jou:^nof<& school divisions.
