Jerak. The old man whose name we have not learned was walking on the station platform and did not see or hear the approach of the flyer which passes through here toward Chicago about 7 p.m. Mr. Jerak rushed to his side and pulled him over to the depot. Both were enveloped in the dust caused by the flyer but neither was injured. A farewell reception will be given in honor of Rev. M.J. McE.voy, pastor of St. Patrick's church, at the parish hall Sunday evening. The well known pastor is leaving for a sojourn abroad and will set sail Sept. 5. Two Chicago couples narrowly escaped with their lives in a cottage on the nor­ thwest side of McCullom Lake by a fire caused by the ex­ plosion of a kerosene stove in the kitchen. The cottage which belonged to Mrs. Nick Bohr burned to the ground. The Empire theatre's new ventilating system was put into operation Sunday evening. Boys and girls of McHenry County between the ages of 12 and 16 years will be given a chance to win a Ford sedan. A contest is to be started at once. Jana, state agent for the Hanover Fire Insurance company of New York, was in McHenry and presented the Stoffel and Reihansperger Insurance agency with a merit certificate issued by the company for serving as their agent the past thirty-nine years. Building and repairs on the Pine Tree Dairy Farms at Pistakee Bay owned by W.R. Skidmore is nearing com­ pletion and the five farms comprising 1.000 acres of land and extending over a distance of two and one half miles are now each equipped with a fine modern set of farm buildings. Bobby Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Miller, was in­ jured recently when the flesh of his leg was torn when caught on a nail in a hayrack. W E Whiting of McHenry gave more than a pint of blood to save the life of Henry F. Senne, a brother-in-law of Crystal Lake, following a major operation. Three fair minded judges made the selection for the sports column's name "So I Hear". The lucky winner is Miss Marion Anderson. • Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schmitt have returned from a trip to Lima, Ohio, where they motored with Lester Page returning with the new bus which Mr. Schmitt purchased to convey the Sherman Hill pupils to the grade school. Mr. Schmitt has been awarded the contract for the (ransportation of the pupils this year Dr. J.E Wheeler is enjoying a vacation from his duties as state veterinarian TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 7, 1950) Edwal Laboratories, Inc. of Ringwood, announces the appointment of Dr. R.L. Frank as director of research. The Community auto Supply, S. Strach owner, has moved two doors west of the former location and is now in business. The building which houses the auto supplies was moved to make room for the new National Tea store. Dan Daniels popular local organist will appear on Jim Moran's Courtesy Hour. The program is broadcast on WENR-TV Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Berendt are now at home in their recently completed home on John street having moved here from Chicago. The marriage of Miss Dolores Rachel and Mr. Vin­ cent Schiavone took place Sept. 2 at the residence of Albert Krause, justice of the peace at McHenry. The reception was DIAL-A-DEVOTION held at the Schiavone Dress Manufacturing company store in Lily Lake. The beautiful Holstein Friesian bull owned by Hickory Creek Farms, McCullom Lake, Border Admiral Jewel was selected by judges as the grand champion bull of his breed at the recent Illinois state fair. The Edwin Dwyer family has moved from LaCrosse, Wis., to a pl.ace on Front street just north of Elm street. Mr. Dwyer is new on the grade school faculty this year. John the Baptist church in Johnsburg was the setting for a beautiful wedding when Miss Virginia Stilling of McHenry became the bride of Mr. Terrence Howard of McHenry on Aug. 28. Rev. Fr. John Dording officiated at the nuptial rite. Miss Patricia Johnson of Thelen drive, McHenry, was named a semi-finalist in a nation wide contest to find "The Girl in The Air With The Most Beautiful Hair". Miss Johnson is an airline hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Mathias J. Rauen will celebrate their sixty-fourth wedding an­ niversary on Sept. 4, when a family gathering is planned in their honor. Robert Howarth, tran­ smission supervisor for Nor­ thern Illinois Gas company retired Sept. 1, after com­ pleting twenty-nine years of service with the utility com­ pany. Jerry W. Conner, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo T. Conway, Spring Grove, was promoted to private first class Aug. 17 in Germany, where he is serving with the^second Armored Cavalry Regiment. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weber and family have moved from Barrington to a home on Waukegan street which they have purchased.
