Everyone is invited to join the Community club members for this special day. r HELPING PAWS by Estelle Atwell It's fun and games time. When? Well, almost any time you can spare to romp and play with your pet. You can mix fun with chores any time of the day or evening, it seems, par ticularly if you have a pet who will stand for only a limited amount of your inattention. Then she'll tease you into ac tion. If things are too quiet for too long, she'll explore the kitchen counters to see what is handy, find something and carry if off, knowing you are going to chase her and there will be action. What if it's something like a stampej^envelope, all ready to be posted? The envelope is apt to be a little the worse for wear when you take it from her, but who can waste a ten^cent stamp these days, so you mail it. Or she might grab the hot pad. And she has a penchant for dish towels, no longer is the dish towel hung from the towel bar where it properly should be. Instead you hang it over the rail leading downstairs from the kitchen, to fool her. But in forgetful moments if the door is left ajar, she'll snatch the towel and the chase starts. Time was when towels were converted into rag bag material at a great rate, now she'll carry them carefully like a retriever carrying a bird, and surrender them untorn. Sometimes the game is ring around the fireplace (the fireplace is the core of the house). Round and round you go, chasing her. She'll let you get close but she won't be caught. If you turn your back, she reverses and chases you. Or, an FM program offers a stirring march or a catchy tune that turns you into a twinkletoes of sorts. This dance act bewildered her at first (really can't blame her as you are no ballerina), but now she joins the act. It certainly does keep things from getting too dull. Her liveliness is one of the pleasures of owning a dog. Do you want to adopt a pet for more fun in your life? Helping Paws has animals for adoption. The Helping Paws office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10 to noon, and from 1 to 3. The telephone number is 459-2641.
