Wonder Lake Maty Jean Huff 728-0267 Tennis Boosters Sponsors Garage Sale Sept. 12,13 The Tennis Boosters garage sale will be held this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the east side firehouse. The Boosters have been busy collecting items from generous Wonder Lake donors and will have many good buys for their customers. Donations include furniture, baby furniture, snow tires, guitars, shutters, fencing and some beautiful clothing, fresh from the cleaners. In cooperation with the Boosters, the Wonder Workers 4-H club will have bakery goods on sale on Saturday morning with all proceeds going to the tennis fund. 4-Her's, Paula Harney and Janet Sullivan are co- chairmen of the bake sale. Coffee and donuts will also be available. More workers are needed to help with the garage sale. If you can donate an hour of your time, please contact Karen Utes at 653-9824. YOUNG AT HEARTS The annual picnic of the Young at Hearts held at Huntley this year was so successful that plans have been made to hold another picnic meeting there on Wednesday, Sept. 17. In the lovely month of October, the Young at Hearters will travel to the Fort Sheridan Museum and the Sara Lee factory. President Marie Robinson has all her brochures together and is working on arrangements for an exciting overnight journey to Green Lake, Wis. ARTS 'N CRAFTS ^ The Arts'n Crafts Guild Christ the King Sodality will meet at the home of Madeline Basile, corner of Pine and Thompson, on Monday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. The project for this meeting will be decorating flower pots. Pitman, has announced provisional figures which indicate that during the month of August, 211 persons died from injuries sustained in- traffic accidents on Illinois highways. The number of deaths reflect an increase of ten over the month of August, 1974. One thousand three hundred and one people have been killed since Jan. 1 of this year. There were 1,246 killed during the same period of 1974, showing an increase of fifty- five. Capt. Herald D. Crockett, district commander for the area, including DeKalb. Out of the fatalities which occurred, nine were victims on motorcycles; two victims were on bicycles, five were Oktoberfest At Woodstock Church Oct. 4 Saturday evening, Oct. 4, has been set for Oktoberfest, an old- fashioned German party, members of St. Mary's parish, Woodstock, announced this week. St. Mary's members, as well as non-members, are invited to attend this social and fund raising event, according to the Rev. William Joffe, pastor. "Funds raised from this event will be used for general maintenance of all parish buildings," Rev. Joffe stated. The evening will begin witfl'a social hour from 8 to 9 p.m. which includes entertainment by the Woodstock high school German band along with free beer and snacks. Highway Work Approved For Marengo Area Contracts totaling $101.5 million for road improvement and maintenance projects have been awarded, the Illinois Department of Transportation has announced. They include $789,348 to Glaze Construction for 5.08 miles of base course and concrete surface on Rt. 23, Marengo area. The* total dollar value is for forty-six projects that bids were submitted on during the June 10 and July 29 bid lettings. Feminist Award To Frances Kuhn The McHenry County National Organization for Women (NOW) presented its second annual Susan B. An­ thony Feminist award recently to Frances M. Kuhn of Woodstock. The presentation was made at a luncheon held at th Old Courthouse Inn in Woodstock NOW developed the award to honor people in McHenry county who have made a contribution toward advancing the status of women. Last year the award was given to State Sen. Jack Schaffer and State Rep. Cal Skinner, Jr., for their continued support of the Equal Rights amendment. Mrs. Kuhn was chosen to receive the award this year because of her involvement in local government. Mrs. Kuhn was elected mayor of Wood­ stock in 1965 and is presently serving her fourth term on the Woodstock City Council. Mrs. Kuhn is also a past president of the Business and Professional Women's club in Woodstock an active member of its legislative committee. One of Mrs. Kuhn's primary goals as a member of this committee has been to promote the passage of the Equal Rights amendment in Illinois. The membership of McHenry County NOW feels Mrs. Kuhn has set an outstanding example for all women in McHenry county.
