He eventually scored and Wally Bitchura made it 7-0 with a perfect kick. The second quarter . began and many people were reminded of the dismal season of last year. EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. Warriors Play Cards On Football Field Here Friday Night doubts the players or observers had about Marian's powers. Dan Knox, the quarterback, led the team to score in the 3 quarters with an aerial that connected with Mark Saladin. The PAT was by Bitchura. Knox put the lid on the contest in the 4th quarter when he scampered from 9 yds out and Bitchura again made the extra point closing the scoring at 21-7. "Dan Knox was excellent", said Parker. "He kept com mand throughout the game and conducted a balanced attack. Conerty looked good, Saladin was impressive bqth ways and LeBlanc looked good as linebacker -- The thing most pleasurable about the game was the offense and defense Dear Earl, What memories you brought back when you mentioned in your column about people coming to the hardware store (when you were a clerk) and asking for a thing-a-ma-jig or a whatcha-macallit. As a teen ager working as a clerk in Vycital's Hardware on Green St., some thirty years ago, Joe Adams of Johnsburg came in and asked for a quart of striped paint. Being green at the business, I asked Charlie Vycital if we had a striped paint. Well, needless to say he and Joe had a good laugh on me, and the next time Joe came in and wanted a left-handed monkey wrench, he didn't fool me with that one, and I had the laugh on him. I never forget those experiences. It was fun! Respectfully, Mrs. Norb. Smith Johnsburg Memories. What would we do without them? We can imagine Joe Adams asking for those items while keeping a straight face. Fun ~ that's what people need to take their minds off their cares. Now comes another home football game. The Dundee Cards come to town this (Friday) night. Another victory for the Warriors would have this season off and wingin'. The pin-up, paste-up gals in the Plaindealer shop are asking which team we will pick in the unity displayed. A team will always have individuals but when we held them down in the 2nd half and got a lot of yardage of our own, it showed a real team effort". Marian is at Marengo on Friday night in a non- conference matchup before the league season opens with Marmion Sept. 20 at Marian. World Series, Cincinnati or Oakland. Let us point out that neither team is in the World Series -- not yet. As Grandma used to say when the little love bug hit a young couple and people started speculating on a wedding -- "There's many a slip 'twixed the cup and the lip." It must be remembered that baseball now has play-offs. That is when a couple of hot pitchers can turn the tide. As a kid we probably would have thought a teachers' strike funny. No school! When farmers went on strikes for higher milk prices, town kids had more milk to drink and more butter to eat. That was farm surplus as we knew it. In those days you could keep chickens in the city. Never a question. During a winter milk strike we got plenty of skim milk for the hens and egg production went up. The old biddies didn't lay much in cold weather. Strikes didn't seem so bad to us as a kid until one day we saw, striking farmers crawl onto a bob-sled and dump milk cans in a ditch. That did something to our young mind. Haven't seen Bill DeVries or Winkel lately. Wonder if they have the baseball season all wrapped up? The last time we saw those two they looked like they were on some sort of a diet. A young woman took a job as a governess, then sud denly left it. Asked why she resigned, she said: "Had to. Back ward child, forward father." McHenry County Club By John Busscher In the first round of the Past President's tournament played at the club on Sunday, Sept. 7, winners in Flight 1 were Ron Waytula, Bill Jacobs, Paul Overton, Art Jackson, Tim Martin, Bill Funk, Hank Leisten and Ed Bishoff. SEMINARY AVE. WOODSTOCK, ILL. 60098 The McHenry high school "Fighting Warriors" fresh from an opening win over North Chicago battle the Cards from Dundee tonight at McCracken field. The Warriors looked im pressive against the Warhawks last Friday night easily win ning 26 to 14. The squad has worked hard this week, and at this time no injuries are reported, so they should be in great shape for the Cardunals. The Cards are led by senior quarterback Matt Bordes. He scored all his team's points in their loss to Barrington last week 30 to 7. Coach Jerry Curtwright claims "We don't have much depth", but he als<fadded, "we have quite a bit of talent". The interior line is what we would call huge. Randy Hetel at 205, Marc Bennett at 230, Mike Hale at 207. Gary Zenter at 245, and Mike Hale at 210. The Cards gave Barrington all it could handle. They lost the ball nine times on fumbles, and as a result Barrington scored five times. It shapes up to be a great battle between two fine ball clubs. Sophomores start the action at 6 p.m.They will be looking for their first win, losing to North Chicago 6 to 0 in the final period. The "Crystal Ball" was a success last week hitting on all five. This week we pick the Warriors over the Cards, Barrington over Crown, The Tigers over Lake Forest, Zion over Mundelein, and Liber- tyville to defeat North Chicago. Harriers Beat Lake Zurich - Lose To Hoffman Estates By Dick Rabbitt The "Running Warriors" of Coach Bill Hutchinson and Earl Kyle defeated Lake Zurich 15 to 50, and lost to Hoffman Estates 22 to 35 in a double dual meet here Tuesday. Andy Oakley again paced the Warriors as he ran in the time of 15:59 over the three mile course. He w ;as never pushed as he won by over 100 vds.
