( 4-H NEWS The Cherry Valley 4-H club held its monthly meeting at the Wright home on Sept. 19. The meeting was called to order by Vice-President, Don Limbaugh. Roll call was taken, secretary's report was read and announcement were made. Discussion was held on the hayride, Christmas caroling and window display. The following officers were elected for the 75-76 year: President, Don Limbaugh; Vice-President, Tammy Schiller; Secretary, Elaine Limbaugh; Treasurer, Dale Schmuhl; Federation Delegate, James Atchison; Federation Alternate, Dale Schmuhl; Reporter, Lynell Limbaugh; Sunshine chairman, Diane Christianson; Recreation chairmen, Rory Fiali and Neil Wright. Guests were introduced. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 17 at the Pope home. The meeting was adjuourned and refreshments were served by the Schiller and Wright families. Reporter, Lynell Limbaugh "4-H '76 Spirit of Tomorrow" is the theme of this year's National 4-H Club Week and the 1,200 4-H'ers in McHenry County are showing their Spirit. 4-H projects are designed for urban youth as well as rural youth, and 8 year olds to 19 year olds. There are more than 100 different projects including conservation of natural resources, exploring for in­ sects, aerospace, electricity, bicycle care, geology, sewing, i n t e r n a t i o n a l f o o d s , photography, beef, dairy, dog care and bowling. McHenry County 4-H'ers during the 1974-75 4-H year showed the most interest in arts, crafts projects, sewing and knitting projects, baking and cooking projects, gar­ dening and horticulture projects, rabbits, horses, beef, and dairy projects. Enrollment in these projects totaled 1,852. O'Heir is leaving to become regional coordinator of the eight-county Region 2 in the State of Illinois Trauma Network. CLYDE KANGAS PHOTO Jim O'Heir, Trauma center coordinator for McHenry county and Western Lake county, has been appointed regional coordinator for the State's Emergency Medical System Region 2 by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Headquartered at the Trauma center at McHenry hospital for the past thirty- three months, O'Heir has supervised the successful founding and expansion of the Emergency Medical system in this area. His new regional duties will embrace an eight- county area administered from the state's Chicago offices. Replacing O'Heir as the coordinator for Western Lake county and all of McHenry county is John Priest, formerly coordinator at Evanston hospital. Priest, an enlisted "medic" in the Air Force for 4-H is "Learning by Doing", and this is even more effective because of the efforts of the 200 adult leaders and 181 teen leaders working within the 40 4- H Clubs in McHenry County. These leaders devote a segment of their relaxation time to working with youth in the 4-H program. The everyday skills all adults have are much too often taken for granted. In 4-H, these skills are put to use to make "The Best Better." In 4-H, church, school, and community activities are also stressed as important in becoming mentally well rounded citizens. What is now known as 4-H work, had its roots in developments of the last decade of the nineteenth century. Boys and girls clubs, agriculture and home economics clubs, corn clubs, cotton clubs and canning clubs evolved into what is today our common 4-H club where boys and girls ages of 8 to 19 work together in projects ranging from Aerospace to Do your Own Thing. Business and Professional Women's club. The theme, "Forgotten Women", was chosen to focus awareness on women who have often been overlooked in history books and denied the recognition they deserve. Students should write about a woman they admire who has m a d e s i g n i f i c a n t accomplishments. Three cash prizes will be awarded: $50 first place, $30 second place, and $20 third place. The home room of the person awarded first prize will receive a set of posters. Essays should be turned in at the public libraries in Woodstock, Crystal Lake or McHenry. The deadline is Oct. - 30. Essays should be a maximum 500 words and should be typed (double- spaced) or written in ink on lined paper. Contestants should list their name, age, address, telephone number and school on the title page of their essay. Age will be taken into consideration during judging.
