Sweet Adelines Present Program Barbershop Style Calendar CAPTAIN AND MRS. DAVID SPENCER Bailey-Spencer Vows Repeated In Military Setting Eglin Air Force Chapel, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., was the setting for the recent wedding of Miss Debbie Bailey and Captain David Spencer. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Bailey of Mid­ west City, Okla., and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Spencer of McHenry. The bride graduated from Centenary college, Shreveport, La. and received her Master's degree from Louisiana State university, Baton Rouge, La. She represented the United States gymnasts as a member of teams competing in World games, Dortmund, Germany; the Pan American games, Winnipeg, Canada; the Pre- 01ympicsr Mexico City, Mex., and two other North American championship teams. She was chosen AU-American. The bride is now an instructor of Gymnastics and Modern Dance at the University of California, Berkley. Captain Spencer is a graduate of Grant high school, Fox Lake, and of the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. He took his pilot training at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex., and is enrolled this fall at Stanford University to com­ plete his Master's degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics. Captain Spencer is presently an F-4 test piolot in armament development for the Air Force at Eglin Air Base. He has flown 180 combat missions in Southeast Asia and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and eleven Air Medals. The newlyweds will make their home in California while the groom completes his education. MR. AND MRS. RAY SULLIVAN OBSERVE ANNIVERSARY - Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Sullivan of Wonder Lake will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Oct 12. An open house at the McHenry American Legion, 2505 N. Ringwood Road, McHenry, from 4 to 6 p.m. is being hosted by the children of the Sullivans. All friends are cordially invited to attend. Couple Write Oivn Vows For Nuptial Service Pamala Adkins of 1516 Birch, McHenry, and Ernest M. Lense of 2000 N. Oak drive, McHenry, , Exchanged nuptial vows Saturday, Oct. 4, at the First Baptist church, McHenry. Dr. Marshall E. Werry, pastor of the church, officiated at the 2 o'clock services and helped the bridal couple write the unique ceremony based on Ephesians 5:22-23. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Adkins of Silverwood, Mich., and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf M. Lense of McHenry. Special music was presented at the ceremony by Mrs. Tom Jackson, organist, and Melvin Hicks, soloist, both of McHenry. Musical selections included "Color My World", "Hold My Hand" and "You Are The One". The church was decorated with floor candlabras trimmed with sprenger fern and white bows and altar bouquets of orange and yellow mums ac­ cented with wheat. The bride chose a formal length gown of nylon sheer trimmed with old English cotton lace. It was styled with an empire waist, long narrow sleeves accented with cuffs of cotton lace and a skirt which trailed into a cathedral length train. Her fingertip veil was designed to match the motif of the gown. She carried a bouquet of fall flowers com­ prised of yellow and deep orange mums, woodroses and wheat. The bride's only attendant was her sister, Debora Adkins, of Silverwood, Mich. She was attired in a floor length peach polyester gown fashioned with short puffed sleeves and a V- neck bodice trimmed with lace. Debora's long dark hair was accented with a yellow ribbon and fall flowers which were pinned individually in her hair. The bridesmaid's dress was made by the bride's mother. Paul Antonou of McHenry served as best man and his brother, Brian Antonou, was usher. The bride's mother chose a floor length gown of pale peach enhanced with a flocked floral design and wore a corsage of yellow mums. The groom's mother wore a long gown of citrus green double knit and a corsage of rust colored mums. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception for 150 friends and relatives was held in the church fellowship hall. Miss Terry Adkins, the bride's sister, circulated the guest book at the reception. Mrs. Donald (Evelyn) McMillian, a friend of the couple, made the wedding cake. The newlyweds plan to make ilieir* first home in DesPIaines. These are the words on the lips of every McHenry Chapter Sweet Adeline as they tie up the loose ends of this years fall production called Barbershop Big Top. The show will be presented this Saturday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m. at the Central school in Crystal Lake. Tickets are available at the door. The show will be presented (barbershop style singing) in three parts. In the first ring of entertainment you will be put in the circus mood with a trip down the main street of clown alley. Ring two will feature a men's barbershop quartet from SPEBSQSA called the On Stage Majority and a ladies quartet from the McHenry Chapter called the Happy Times Four. Ring three will again feature the thirty-three member chorus in a trip back to those good old days. In ring three you will hear those old favorites that are sure to bring you a smile and maybe a tear or two. Sweet Adelines is a non profit organization for ladies who like to sing four part harmony barbershop style. Pastor Peter Anderson officiated at the 5 o'clock afternoon ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Reed of St. Charles and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hughes of McCullom Lake. The bride wore an old fashioned style, formal length gown of sata-peau trimmed ^ with emroidered Venice lace. Her chapel length veil was attached to a matching Venice lace headpiece. Attending the bride were Mrs. William (Julie) Hughes of Elgin, matron of honor, and Jill Turner x)f St. Charles, the bride's cousin, bridesmaid. The attendants were attired in old fashioned style gowns of rust colored jersey knit designed with a high collared yoke and cuffs of Nottingham lace. All bouquets for the wedding party were chrysanthemums in fall shades. William Hughes of Elgin served his brother as best man. William Turner of Maple Park, the bride's cousin, was groomsman. Karl Hughes of McCullom Lake, the groom's brother and James Turner of Maple ^ark, the bride's cousin, handled the ushering duties. The bride attended St. Charles high school and is employed at Diamond In­ ternational, St. Charles. The groom attended Glenbard West high school and Southern Illinois University.
