A small donation is requested at the door to help meet expenses. Free Child Care will be provided for anyone interested. The speaker for the program will be Terri P. Tepper, the founder and president of the international organization, Center for a Woman's Own Name. Included in the presentation will be a woman's legal name, retaining a name after . marriage, adopting a husband's name, hyphenating a name, changing a name upon or after divorce, and changing a name while still married. Alcoholism Subject Of Talk At Nurses Meeting "The Nurse and Alcoholism" will be the subject of the program of the 16th District Illinois Nurses Association on Oct. 13 at the Cabriolet Motor Lodge banquet room, Liber- tyville. Dinner will be at 6:45 p.m., the program at 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be a registered nurse who is a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. She will tell how alcoholism had affected her personal and professional life. The program is planned to help nurses to better understand the person with a drinking problem. AND MRS. THEODORE S. MILLER OBSERVE SILVER ANNIVERSARY --Mr. and Mrs. Theodore S. Miller celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary at a surprise dinner party given by their daughter, Miss Diane Miller. The surprise dinner dance was held at the Moose lodge, McHenry, for eighty guests on Sept. 6. The couple was married Sept. 10, 1950, in McHenry and have three children, Diane, David and John, all of McHenry. As a result of very hard work on the part of the men in the employ of the McGucken and Vander Heyden company, the paving of half of Green street is now completed and the road open to traffic. Pearl street is also finished as far as Green street. The petit jury has been called for Monday morning. The jurors called are Edward Sutton, Chris Smith, John Thennes, John Schaefer, Math Steffes, Floyd Cooley, Edward Smith and Ray McGee. Kent and Green announce the sale of the 225 acre farm at Fish lake owned by Frank Wattles of McHenry to M.J. Kent, local police magistrate of this city. The farm is located on the banks of Fish lake one half mile eacl of Volo. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 31, 1935) Richard Vycital, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Vycital of McHenry, who is a freshman at Lake Forest college, sustained a broken jaw bone in football practice. The first baby born in Oc tober within five miles of the Plaindealer office in the lucky baby contest sponsored by several of the merchants of this city, was born Saturday morning, Oct. 9. Donna Marie Dowe is the lucky baby for the month of October. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dowe. Glen Peterson is now em ployed with the C.H. Downs Motor Express company, making trips between here and Chicago. Those who have raised ducks know that they lay eggs usually from March until July and very seldom later than July. However, Mrs. James Haverin of Lily Lake, tells us she has a White Pekin duck that has been laying eggs this month an oc currence which Mrs. Haverin never knew to happen before. The "Corn Crib", Tom Bolger's popular popcorn stand which adjoins his drug store on Green street, has been closed for the winter after a successful season. Girls in charge of the stand were Janet Lindsay and Miriam Sayler. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 9, 1950) McHenry lost one of its most remarkable residents Nov. 6 when Mrs. Minnie Scheuneman passed away in St. Therese hospital following a short illness. Mrs. Scheuneman was 91 years old. Leslie Walton Krieger, Jr., of Lily Lake, enlisted in the Marine Corps and has been sent to the recruit depot at Parris Island, S C. The new marine is a graduate of the McHenry high school and i& the son of Dr. Leslie W. Krieger of Lily Lake, a Chicago physician. At the Saturday night 4-H award banquet held in Woodstock and sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of that city, out of the eleven named as state outstanding members, five were from this area, Charlotte Hogan, Carol Harrison, Sharon Sells, Ferol Martin and Bobogene Peterson. Nix officiated at the double ring ceremony. mmmm Pi >KN DEALER TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 4, 1965) McHenry high school band under the direction of John Leighty, has been in rehearsal daily for the past week for their appearance at the last football game of the season against Woodstock, Nov. 5. There was a general rejoicing among citizens most interested in a new high school in McHenry's District 156 last Saturday night when it was learned that the $3,100,000 bond issue for construction of a new high school had passed. The vote was 2,386 in favor and 1,889 opposed. In Christ the King church of Wonder Lake on Oct. 30, Father Vanderpool united in marriage Sarah Marie Russell of Wonder Lake and Mr. Gerald Gayeski of Chicago Heights. Marine Sergeant Alfred H.
