On The Sidelines by Dick' Rabbltt The powerful Barrington Broncos will be at McCracken Field tonight to take on our "Warriors". The Warriors will be ready, last year you may remember they gave the "Big Red" all they could handle. It should be a good game, and if I were you I wouldn't want t to miss it. It is quite evident that the Broncos who are now in second place in the North Suburban, have an eye at a large berth in the state playoffs. This is the reason they ran up a 70 point total on a helpless North Chicago eleven last Saturday. They did not begin to go to the bench until late in the ̂ a me. I wonder how that second and third stringer felt with his team leading by such a large score, and he was still not playing in the game. Coach Cuda's sophomore golfers came through for him in the North Suburban Conference meet. As I have said before, the golf program is on its way up at McHenry. Hutch's "Harriers" did themselves proud at Peoria last weekend. Running against the best in the state, the team finished 16th out of 44 schools. Andy Oakley must have ran a good race to place 10th in such fine company. Last Saturday the Warriors spoiled the Tiger homecoming. The McHenry team of Coach Bill Day came to play, and completely dominated the Tiger eleven of Bill Mack. Brian Nusshadoneofhis better days getting 127 yds. rushing. Don Rode and Brian Miller at quarterback hit their target when the chips were down. Guy Miller, defensive tackle, and the rest of his mates really shut 'off the Tiger running game. Time and time again they came up with the big play. As Coach Day mentioned after the game "It was a great team effort" and for those of us who saw the game we will have to agree. Mike Shanahan*s water polo team has a fine record against some of the best team£, not only in this area, but in the state. Mike is hoping his squad can make it to the state finals for the third year in a row^ In reference to a letter to the editor written by Mr. Belzer I feel that he is entitled to an answer about my column last year concerning a hockey team and its coach. In no way am I a full time reporter. I cover athletic events for McHenry High School, and as a favor to a former player of mine, I have written several articles about Marian Central, at the request of Coach Tom Parker. During the month of October McHenry High athletic events for boys only, covers 55 events, of which 33 are out of town. There is no way that I can cover all those events. Saturday there were five events, I managed to get to see three of them, including both the soph and varsity game at Crystal Lake.Monday there were five events again, I managed to get to three of them. Last year I had several of the boys who played hockey at Zion ask me if I would put an article in the paper about their team and coach. They wrote up the article, I corrected some of the spelling, and made necessary corrections and put article in the paper. I will be glad to do the same for the Hornet football team. Anytime you or anyone else wants an article about your team in the paper, feel free to call me. Not to degrade the Hornet football team for one minute, but I just don't have the time to spend Sunday afternoons watching your football team play. A LONG DRIVE for Bob Lunkenheimer as he tees off on No. 10 during the conference tournament at McHenry Country Club Monday. Bob carded an 82 to help McHenry to a third place finish. Today the Warrior golfers are back in action in the I.H.S.A. District tourney, also being played here. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) MHENRY REC. LADIES TUES. A Family Fun Day will be sponsored by the Wonder Lake Tennis Boosters. Hot Dogs, drinks, a bake sale, old fashioned races, games and Dol Good I ars & ense In recent columns, I've been discussing some of the problems facing families with the addition of a second in come. One of the most im portant to deal with from the start can be, "is the money yours, mine, or ours?" There are, of course, many ways of handling the family's total income. Each party working can maintain a separate checking account and then pay half, or a fair per centage of all the common household items of expense. These bills are in the "ours" category. Then the rest of the bills have to be divided between the workers as "yours" and "mine." £ more common solution is the pooling of the combined incomes into a joint checking account, from which all household items are paid. Then each person draws an allowance, usually on a weekly basis. This is for lunches, clothing and other incidentals. Whatever system you choose, experts agree that it is im portant for everyone con tributing to the family income to keep at least a part of their earnings. If a second income is in your future, give these arrangements some thought. It may save you a lot of confusion down the line. Readers' questions are welcome and should be sent to P.O. Box 2210, Newport Beach, CA 92663. Food Stamps America's Food Stamp program allows low-income households to buy more food of greater variety to improve their diets. Participants pay a small amount of money, based on family size and net monthly in come, and receive a larger value of food stamps, which can be spent like money in participating food stores. TIM BYERS eyes his drive during the conference play here last Monday. Tim totaled an 82 in the 18 hole N.S.C./tourney. Jim Buenzli also carded an 82 and Tom Pepping led the Warriors with an 81 as McHenry captured third place. PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, lfc?v •••••••••••••••• THE LAW SERVES YOU Women May Choose Their Own Last Name The custom of a woman assuming the name of her husband upon marriage is a tradition still practiced by most brides, though not binding on them. According to the Illinois State Bar association, a woman may choose to maintain her maiden name, although she should be aware of the possible complications which may arise in buying a home, filing income tax returns, and filling out forms in relation to her children. Whichever name a woman chooses should be used consistently and never for the purpose of fraud or deception. The Illinois State Bar association also explains that a married woman may resume her maiden name or that of any former husband upon getting a divorce. A woman using her» married name who wishes to return to her maiden name while married may do so with a name change, which is ac complished by a court proceeding in the county in which the person resides. The person desiring the name change must have been a resident of Illinois for at least six months. Notice of the in tended name change must be published in a newspaper of general circulation. Anyone may bring forth an objection to the proposed name change. The process of changing one's name is relatively simple but informing all interested parties (insurance companies, licensing agencies, mortgages) requires thoroughness to avoid future confusion. 1 BECAME ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS AT NORTH CAROLINA.
