Walk-A-Thon Brings Out Many Eoftr Participants One of the first to cross the finish line after the 16-mile walk was McHenry County Sheriff Art Tyrrell, who even stopped along the roadside to say hello to Jennifer Cullen, the McHenry County Poster child. The 16-mile walk between Crystal Lake and Woodstock Sunday, Oct. 12, brought many eager walkers, joggers, and wheelers, including Lawyer Ted Floro, who reached his goal of $1,776 after completing the course to Crystal Lake and returning to Woodstock in 4 hours and 7 minutes. Larry Rowe of Union and Don Vandello, his friend, completed the 16-mile course in 2 hours. Both men "wheeled" their wheelchairs for the walk-a- thon. One girl, Lisa Wolter, walked the entire 16 miles wearing a cast from neck to hips. "I wanted to do it and I knew I could make it," she said after her trek. Two Crystal Lake men and their sons, members of the Amateur Athletic union, completed the course in just 61 minutes and others took a liesurely walk back and forth enjoying the beautiful day. Walkers received free hot- dogs and pop at both ends of the route as well as candy and water at the center checkpoint. Members of the McHenry county Civil Defense were an integral part of the day's ac tivities. They coordinated TAX C LINIC Explain the three-year transition period provided for in the new 33-1-3 percent assessment bill (House Bill 990). Sandi Norton and her group from Gearmaster in McHenry and Charles Gehrke of Woodstock were truly inspiring as they walked to help raise money.
