The World War I barracks was joined by V.F.W. Post 1600 and American Legion Post 491, who planned the impressive program, which was held inside because of cold weather. Introduced by M.C. Fred Meyer, State Rep. Thomas Hanahan and Mayor Joseph Stanek addressed a near capacity crowd. Music was provided by the West campus band, directed by John Leighty. The Fox DesPlaines chapter of M.D.A. services the needs of over 105 patients living in the area who suffer from muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases. An extensive patient service program provides wheelchairs, braces, walkers, and any other orthopedic^ equipment needed. Free clinic, services also in clude testing, therapy, and regular visits to a muscular dystrophy clinic where patients are seen by a team of therapists and two doctors who evaluate the progression of muscle weakness. The Muscular Dystrophy association is also involved in an expanding research program in an effort to find a cure for this dreaded disease.
