EUGENE NELLESSEN, OWNER 1013 Lamb Road, Woodstock, Illinois TERMS: CASH OR GOOD CHECK AUCTIONEER: "BILL" RUSSEL A Day To Remember A year ago this Thanksgiving, there occurred an event of significance not only to our nation but to the world. Yet, by many, that event went unnoticed. The event? The separation of the non-volunteer from the United States Army. The significance? The volunteer Army had proved a success. Why was the event largely passed over? Perhaps because such virtues as patriotism and dedication are, to many, anachronistic. Perhaps because some of the media withdraw from any event that is not at least somewhat anti-establishment. But the fact remains. America's young men and women said, and continue to say, that they care enough about the American way to commit some or all of their working lives to preserving it. This Thanksgiving weekend, on the anniversary of that statement, America and her friends around the world should be truly thankful. Police Chiefs Agree To License Change For Economy The majority of police chiefs throughout the state said -they would approve a change from the present two license plate system to one plate on the rear of a vehicle, provided it would save an expected $4 million, Secretary of State Michael J. Howlett said this week. The endorsement came from police chiefs who returned a three-part questionnaire, sent by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, in conjunction with the Secretary of State's office. "Police chiefs were asked if law enforcement capabilities would be hindered if a license plate is on the rear of a vehicle only. Majority approval came only on the part which included the $4 million savings to tax payers," Howlett said. Last September, Howlett recommended new legislation to issue multi-year license plates for Illinois cars and trucks, instead of annual. The proposal would be for a five-year plate of aluminum, renewable each year by purr chase of a reflectorized decal to be affixed 'to the plate. In addition, the legislation will ask that the Secretary be given discretion to extend the multi-year plate beyond five years. Change in the license plate system followed recom mendations by a task force Howlett appointed last April to study multi-year and per manent plates. Ronald P. FoX, Elmhurst, is chairman of the evaluation committee. The committee said that Illinois would save $21 million over a five-year period with multi-year plates. However, the cost for the first year would be $6,661,000 higher, mainly because the aluminum plate would be more expensive than the present steel used. FRIDAY. NOVEMBER 28. 1975 At present, forty-five states are issuing multi-year plates and fifteen states are using only the rear plate. "Our recommendation in changing to multi-year plates would still allow owners to keep their old numbers if they sell one car and buy another," Howlett emphasized A-l HEARING AID SERVICE Free Loaners-Complete Service on all Makes Custom Earmolds-30 Day Trial on New Aids Try Before you Buy!
