McHENRY UNIT 491 By Pearl Cooper After the advancement of the flags, the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner" and the pledge--allegiance, the November meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. E.J. (Evelyn) Osmon. Americanism and National Security chairman, Mrs. Roy (Lauretta) Homo, presented the commander of the post, Lloyd Wehrheim, with a flag to be flown at the post home. She also announced that a flag was donated to Valley View school and to the McHenry fire station. Children and Youth chair­ man, Mrs. Dennis (Grace) Latimer, asked all members to remember the needy and to please bring canned goods to the December meeting for the Christmas baskets. She also thanked those who brought them to this meeting. Past President Parley chairman, Lauretta Homo, told of the Past Presidents' meeting that was held at the home of Pearl Cooper with co-hostess Cecilia Violett. Eleven past presidents attended and nylons were collected and cut and will be sent to the Veteran's Craft exchange. Jewelry was assembled for the women veteran patients at Downey Veterans hospital. Rehabilitation chairman, Mrs. Victor (Marie) Howe, asked the members not to forget the Elgin and Downey veteran patients at Christmas. She asked for decks of cards, stationary, stamps, combs, men's sox, ditty bags, coin tray favors, fresh fruit, cookies and candy bars. Donations were sent to the 7 Point program; Indian Children's fund; Department Child Welfare fund; American Legion Child Welfare foun­ dation; Gifts to the Yanks who Gave; Chapel of the four Chaplains; Department 'Spirit of '76' fund; Girl's Scout sponsorship at I.S.S.C. school, at Normal; Easter Seal society, McHenry County Historical society; Hines Hospital Coffee fund; Salvation Army; and the DuPage- McHenry Lung association. Mrs. Ed (Maria) Guettler, Music chairman, had her daughter, Sally Roth, sing NOVEMBER 29 St. Margaret Chapter of NAIM -- Meet for Cards - Oak Room - St. Mary's School - 7:30 p.m. PLAN HOLIDAY EVENT--Members of St. John's Home and School association are planning their Holiday Fashion show and salad luncheon which will be held at the Johnsburg Community club Wednesday, Dec. 3. Mrs. Kenneth (Jane) Groth- man passed the CARE box for farm equipment for the county of Belize, in Central America, the Foreign Relations country for 1975-76. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Grace Latimer, Evelyn Osmon and Betty Wehrheim. Catherine Stilling was not present to receive the at­ tendance award. Special Prizes were won by Grace Latimer and Italia Mazzone. There were thirty-two members and one guest, Dorothy Larsen, present at the meeting. Tina Boeker was refreshment chairman, with her committee of Helen Bacon, Madalyn Otto, Eleanor Althoff, Mary Pat Cunningham, Eileen Sperry, Jaclean Bowles, Marilyn Miller, Shirley Smith, Arlys Aim, Elizabeth Paulin, Phyllis Grosrenaud and Ellen Huska. Named to office were Marian Chapter Officers Myrtle Tobin, worthy matron; David Christie, worthy patron; LaFern Kuntz, associate matron; Raymond Kuntz, associate patron; Edith Dowell, secretary; Emily Rahn, treasurer; Phyllis Zell, conductress; Lee Axim, associate conductress; Patricia Stephan, chaplain, Discuss Holiday Menu Planning For Diabetic "Holiday Menu Planning for the Diabetic" will be discussed by Isabel Brody, R.D., therapeutic dietitian at McHenry hospital, when the McHenry county branch of the American Diabetes association meets at McHenry hospital at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2. "The Holiday season is a crucial time for persons who want to adhere to their diabetic diets but don't want to impose stringent limits on their families," Mrs. Brody ex­ plained. "We will discuss food ex­ changes in terms of traditional holiday meals." All interested persons are welcome to attend this open meeting, according to Jack Sweeney, president of the County branch. Miss Jeanette White, dietitian of the Chicago office of the American Diabetes association, will also attend the meeting. New Senior Citizens Club Names Officers The Senior Citizens club of Wonder Lake held its second official meeting in Nativity Lutheran church Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. There have been 116 senior residents who have shown an interest in forming a club in the Wonder Lake area. The temporary officers are Bill Lamont, president; Ed­ ward Sherwin, vice-president; Thomas Millier, treasurer; and Grace Smith, secretary. The next election of officers will be held in March, 1976. This will enable>vthe members an op­ portunity to get acquainted with each other. A group of senior citizens went by bus on Nov. 22 to see the Ice Follies in Chicago. Future meetings will be held the first and third Mondays at 1 p.m. of each month in the Community house in Highland Shores, located1'at 9015 Woody trail. "Bless This House" in honor of Thanksgiving and the group joined in singing other Thanksgiving songs. Membership chairman, Mrs. David (Doris) Henken, an­ nounced that 313 members have paid their dues to date and that we are still short fifty- seven members for quota. She requested that all members who have not paid their dues to please send them to the post home or to members of the Membership team.
