Richard Merkhofer In Biological Honor Society Richard Merkhofer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Merkhofer of 4300 Ridgeway road, Ringwood, was among the fifty-three students at Illinois State university who became members of Phi Sigma, the national collegiate honor society in the biological sciences. The new members were initiated Saturday, Dec. 6. The ISU chapter has nearly 200 members whose major fields include various biological sciences, pre-medicine, pre- dentistry, medical technology and the allied health professions, as well as education. Hospital Service Area Extends To Large Population The service area that depends on Memorial hospital at Woodstock extends in all directions, but particularly toward the larger population areas outside Woodstock, in­ cluding McHenry, Crystal Lake, Wonder Lake and Cary. Bert Hanson, executive director, said statistics for the year ending last Sept. 30 show the number of patient days declined - from 33,175 to 32,314. Inpatient admissions declined from 5,621 to 5,591. But the number of people served as outpatient increased along with the many services provided outpatients such as in 'laboratory, X-ray, physical therapy, and the emergency room. The outpatient load grew from 10,717 to 13,586. By communities, the most inpatients came from Wood­ stock, 2,106. This was followed by McHenry, 678; Crystal Lake, 617; Wonder Lake, 452; Cary, 329; Marengo, 170; Huntley, 144; Harvard, 131; Fox River Grove, 105; Algonquin, 95; Hebron, 79; Richmond, 56; Union, 48; Wauconda, 22; and Alden, 15.
