MODEL TRAIN SHOW "Wouldn't it be loverly" if all the lost animals were found; and all the found animals were reclaimed by their owners; and all the strays find good homes; and people would cease to neglect and abuse animals ; and animal welfare organizations like Helping Paws would receive all the support (!!! and volunteers) needed to enable them to help more animals, and our fine McHenry county shelter with its capable staff receive all the help it needs to expand and cope with the various animal problems that beset the county that would be a very Merry Christmas. All of the goals may be a little out of reach at present but those who assist these causes are in their pitching and that's a giant step forward. And just a word for those who bring new pets into their homes during holiday excitement, do remember that the new pet needs time for adjustment; don't allow the children to roughhouse with it; fix it a nice bed and give it some peace and quiet during the tumultuous period; feed it wisely and sparingly and refrain from giving it all kinds of human edibles that we keep around over the holidays. The Helping Paws office is open Monday through Friday, from 10 to noon and from 1 to 3. However, during Christmas .week it will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 28, and will re open, Monday, Dec. 29. McHenry Model railroading is popular these days even if the real thing is not. That's the impression derived from a visit to the second annual model railroad show in progress in the lobby of McHenry Savings and Loan association. The attractive display of new and old equipment opened a week ago and will run through Saturday, Dec. 20 . Visitors of three generations find something of interest, ranging from those who remember the toy trains of their childhood to the youngster fascinated by the operating HO gauge layout. The classic old Lionel trains, recently manufactured models and assorted bits of railroad memorabilia are being shown by several northwest suburban members of the Train Collectors association's Mid west division. The TCA is a national organization num bering close to 7,000 toy train buffs. Among those exhibiting at this show are Joe Bak, Ken Dowell, Joe Gurdak, Jack Keller and Gilbert Tosch. Each has contributed items representing his particular field of collecting. Taken together, the display runs into rare examples worth many thousands of dollars. James R. Marinangel, McHenry Savings vice- president, invites area residents to stop before the end of the week. "• * * * Errors often arise when men try to prove that they have been right. GLEN E.
