(STAFF PHOTO-W A YNE GAYLORD) Ou r very best |T hol iday wishes to you 1^ and your fami ly in th is gay and fes t ive B | season! May the ^ sp i r i t o f Chr is tmas sh ine through the hours , l igh t ing up your daysI PAYTON CHEVROLET Hwy. 31 South • McHenry III. 'Tis the season to be jolly. It is also the season to tell yourself th^it next year you will shop early and get your #ards out at least 10 days earlier. It is also the season to forget all petty ideas and remember that the other fellow has problems, too. WHOA! How did we get started like this? The first line must have started us to roll. Might as well continue. IT is THE SEASON- TO smile when you receive a card from a dear niece with this short message -- "Love Ya". To appreciate notes like Ida Quinlan's from way down Arkansas way. Clara Miller sends her our column. (Both nice girls in our book). To check your billfold often. The flatness isn't from sitting on it. To strive to better our lives and not be envious of the guy ahead. To love those Cub fans who give us a rough time. (Love 'em a little bit anyhow). To have a great time at all the parties and worry about the calories next year. It is the season WHEN-- It is a joy to watch the faces of little children. Santa needs all the help we can give him. (Wonder if HIS wife gives him a lot of in structions before he starts out?) People like Elaine Graf start counting the days 'til spring. You hope for a little snow for Christmas -- not too much. A fire in the fireplace gives special cheer. You pause to remember the true meaning of Christmas. Walking down the street and meeting happy (if tired) people puts a little ginger in your step and you haven't an enemy in the world. Many people help those less fortunate instead of just talking about it. You look forward to an All- Chicago World Series - (A guy can dream a little, can't he). A cup o' cheer makes people sing. You get an annual review from "Zeke" Bacon from Arizona way. Says he plays golf every day in his shorts. (Hope not the kind of shorts we wear). You receive many kind notes on Christmas cards. You speak to everybody whether you know them or not. You think back of the earlier Christmas days, but don't want to repeat them because your readers may be tired of hearing about them. You are on your best behavior. (Better be if you want that pair of socks under the tree). You are so happy that people like Arnold Rauen can vacation in Florida (So tired)! , You wish your doctor would say it is absolutely necessary for you to go to a warm climate (He can wait until spring training time). You look back on many acts of kindness shown you in the past year. You are hoping that youi police department, fir< department, rescue squac members -- and all others whe do so much for others will hav< a joyous Christmas. You hope that somebody wil remember to spread a bit ol cheery by calling on shut-ins You wish everybody ha( warm coats, and soles on theii shoes. You thank God for nurses. (They soothe more pain than medication). You love your fellow co workers, past and present. You try to think of a new way to say Merry Christmas. It is in all sincerity that we wish everybody good health and happiness -- now and always. Koerber hit on 9 field goals and 3 free throws for 21 points in the Warrior conference win over the Tigers last Friday night. Other Warrior in picture is guard Tom Ludwig. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Warriors Defeat Inspired Tigers 74-66 By Dick Rabbitt The Crystal Lake Tigers, playing their first game under new coach Steve Wilson, bat tled the McHenry Warriors before going down to defeat 74 to 66 on their home floor Friday night. Wilson taking over from John Swenson who resigned Monday had his Tigers up for the game. The Warriors started out and jumped out to an 8 to 8 lead before the Tigers could get in the scoring column. With 4:30 remaining in the period Lund put the Warriors ahead 12 to 2 and it looked as if the Warriors would blow the Tigers right out of the fieldhouse. However, the Tigers stuck in there and trailed 20 to 12 at the end of the period. The Warriors missed three easy layups that could have literally broken the game wide open in the initial period. The two teams battled on even terms throughout the second period, but noticeable in the Warrior attack was that "Radar" Reilly was beginning to hit the hoop. The teams walked off at the intermission with the Warriors leading 38 to 30. TIGER SPURT After Koerber and Ludwig each made a basket to give the Warrior a more comfortable lead, the Tigers began to peck away at the Warrior's shaky defense. With O'Neil and Pearson hitting from 12 ft. out the Tigers cut the Warrior lead to a mere 2 at the period trailing 53 to 51. RADAR TAKES OVER C In the final period Reilly took complete charge of the game. The senior guard of the Warriors put on a dazzling display of shooting, hitting for 6 of 7 from the field. With Decker, Koerber and Lund sweeping the boards the Warriors made their move, but not until the Tigers took a 63 to 61 lead with 5:30 remaining. At 1:51 of the game Koerber's turn around jump shot put the Warriors ahead 72 to 64 and , that was the ball game. Again the Warriors had one bad quarter, this time it was the third period. During the other three periods the Warriors looked like a super team. During the early going their defense and fast break worked to perfection. The passing of Reilly, Ludwig and Lund time and time again caught the Tigers napping on defense. However, the Warriors seem to lack the killer instinct. Once they get this formula watch out. It was a good game to watch from a fan standpoint. However, the coaches may think otherwise. The Warrior side of the fieldhouse was packed, and the noise was loud and clear. A spirited group of alumni really urged the Warrior crowd on, and they responded as only a Warrior crowd can do at a basketball game. Next on tap for the Warriors is the Kankakee tourney on Monday the 29th. Hope to see all of you at Kankakee.
