PAGE 3 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY. DECEMBER 2t. i«7{ POET'S CORNER THE STAR OF BETHLEHEM ...and they came to Bethlehem Josef and Mary... . \ they asked for a place to stay but there was no room... and all they could find... was a stable, with an ox and warm hay... At midnight, a star rose suddenly high on the sky above. And a choir of heavenly angels appeared, they spoke to the shepherds watching their sheep "Don't have any fear, go to a stable and bring your hearts filled with love". ..."For the son of God is born tonight... and the shepherds were blinded from the bright, shining light. They left their sheep and walked away they found in a stable a newborn child lying on a blanket of hay... They fell dowifon their knees... and began to pray... Mary watched in silence, she knew... there was nothing, what she had to explain or say... Her son was the son of God... who was born in that stable here tonight... and the shepherds, who came to see this child, were guided by a heavenly light. They came to pray and worship her son and when they will leave... they will tell everyone... That God has sent to earth His only begotten son. ...and the star of Bethlehem which began one night to shine to tell the world... that Jesus Christ was born will always be with us... until the end of time... by Maria Heiser CHRISTMAS WARMTH The sun is shining across the sparkling snow With invisible tracks from Santa Claus, you know. The fireplace is crackling with joy Anxiety is in the hearts of every girl and boy. The tree is so elegant clothed in dark green As it stretches to touch our tallest beam. The packages are wrapped so nice and neat We will open them now, before we eat. Rondi Cunat ANGELS Two toddlers teeter on slippery snow As their tiny cheeks tinged with scarlet Burn bright with eagerness for winter whiteness. Scurry, slip, whine, whimper, shiver, chilling Blasts breeze falling snow into little mouths With tongues outstretched for quenching liquid. Angels in the snow, both, stretching movements Focus on winter wonderland wishing. Mary Beth Blum RESPITE The snow sinks softly, gently whispering Welcome to a weary mind; world worried With burdens of summer passed rests, relaxes As the silver sheet buries any thought Of discontent. A chilling warmth covers Earth giving her mystery in disguise. Miracle, healer, refresher, white snow, Renew the spirit to face another heat. Mary Beth Blum THE SEASON "It came to pass in those days..." It comes to pass even now And again every year In cyclical rhythm, reborn, Praise - Gaude Emmanuel! Mary Beth Blum AUTUMN TO WINTER A melancholic wind howls - a ghastly Emptiness overcomes the earth • autumnal Disintegration blazing to its own Winter peace. A cycle ended when I Have merely commenced upon my first long journey with you. Juxtaposition or . Opposition - our life is seemingly To live in a feinting death, a season When much change dominates thought, word, action. In the visual beauty leading now To the winter starkness, is there a more Hidden, dormant life sucking to live through Another winter? If not, we have just A hint of time together. We merely Have the span of a whisper that bares trees Of their autumnal beauty forever. Mary Beth Blum [1; ^\l)i SANTA TIME - It was holiday party time at St. Paul's Episcopal church last Sunday. At left, Father Arthur McKay, pastor, opens his gift from Santa as some of his young parishioners look on with interest. At right, Mrs. Katie Jiran, organist and choir leader, plays guitar to entertain the little ones. 3812 West Elm StrMt Established 1875 Phone 385-0170 McHenry, Illinois 60060 Theatre Group Will Present "Tunnel Of Love" The delightful comedy, "The Tunnel of Love", by Joseph Fields and Peter DeVries will be presented by the American Repertory Theatre system at the Mc Henry County club, 820 N. John street, in mid-January. Featured in the cast are Dave Huffman, Woodstock; Lillian Allen, Antioch; Nicholas Muschal, Algonquin; and Yvonne Alton, Ann Marie Cina and Marie Kenyon , all of McHenry. "The Tunnel of Love" is the story of Augie and Isolde Poole, a childless couple who decide to adopt a baby. The Pooles give their friends and next door neighbors, Dick and Alice Pepper, as references. Un fortunately, the choice is a bad one, for when the adoption investigator, Estelle Novick, comes to call at the Poole home, the reference, Dick Pepper, makes a pass at her and things go amiss for the applicants. Augie, in his at tempt to straighten things out, finds himself caught in the middle of the misun derstanding and is descended Exploding Auto Battery Serious Threat To Eyes Winter is here and most of us will be lucky if we avoid the use of "jumper cables", to perk up a dead battery. But this process, according to ISPB, is very likely to cause an increasing number of eye in juries throughout the country. The danger is that charging a battery with "jumper cables" that hook-up power from another battery, releases a mixture of hydrogen and upon by an hysterical wife, an angry Alice Pepper, and a very willing sex-preoccupied in vestigator. "The Tunnel of Love", directed by Barbara D. Miller, will be presented in the Red Carpet room at the McHenry Country club Jan. 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. Theatre-goers may purchase separate play tickets, with curtain at 8 p.m. or take advantage of a dinner-theatre evening. Reservations will be necessary for the dinner- theatre package and may be made by calling the clubhouse or. write to A.R.T.S., Box 542, McHenry, at an early date. oxygen gases that can explode with extreme violence. One man had a battery cap fly up into his eye when he was trying to start his car. A 20- year-old woman suffered a central corneal laceration when the battery exploded in her face. In another accident a 60-year-old man had to have surgery to repair a retinal hole caused when the battery ex ploded. If you are going to use "jumper cables" to start your car on a cold winter's night, here is the safest way of doing it; Connect one end of the cable to the positive pole of the weak battery. 2. Connect the other end to the positive pole of the booster battery. 3. Connect the second cable to the negative pole of the booster battery. , 4. Then connect the other end to the engine block of the disabled car - as far away from the battery as possible. 5. After starting the car, first remove the cable from the engine block, then its other end from the booster battery.
