/ On The Sidelines by Dick Rabbit! The Warriors won another tough one in the fieldhouse last Friday. The spacious structure just doesn't seem to bring out the best in Warrior teams. After building up a big lead, they had a letdown, and finally had to rally in the closing minutes for the win. Terry Reilly had the hot hand hitting six of seven during the final period. Coach Ludwig is going to have to have a leash with him to-take care of a member of his staff. With a Warrior on the floor injured, genial Earle Cooper trotted out to attend the needs of the young lad. Before "Coop" could get off the floor the official was ready to put the ball in play. We could use a sixth man, but I don't think "Coop" could rebound with those big fellows. Coach John Swenson's retirement as coach of the Tigers was of a $iort duration. John resigned last Monday, and was not on the Tiger bench Friday night against the Warriors. However, he reconsidered and came back Saturday night to lead the Tigers to a win over Woodstock. John's wife has been very ill the past year, and along with the self-pressure he put upon himself with the struggling Tigers was just too much. However, John felt that he owed it to his squad to come back, and I can imagine the Tigers were very glad to see him back in harness. For those of you who don't know John let me assure you • that there is no finer gentlemen anywhere on this earth. When El Partenheimer who doesn't sing out praises too often says "John is a super guy" then you know John is okay. The Warrior coaching staff I know is glad John reconsidered, and the Tigers will be a better team because of it. Coach Sobczak was quite pleased with the showing of his wrestling squad in the Harvard Invitational. The tourney is one of the toughest in northern Illinois, and brings a lot of good teams to the meet. I'm sure the Warriors will profit from the experience they gained during the two day meet. Karl Swanson picked up a second place award, and Matt Schuster came back after initial loss of the season to gain a third place finish. With'1 the Warriors still undefeated in the North Suburban I thought I would bring back a few memories to the 1958-59 season when they won their only North Suburban championship. Below is a box score of the Woodstock game at McHenry during that great season of Cliff Fulton and his "Happy Warriors". I have been searching quite awhile to And a box score when Glen Peterson didn't foul out in a game. Surely some time in his career "Big Pete" played a full game. 1958-59 SEASON McHenry: Name Eichinger Cajthaml Vycital Bentz Creighton Claybough Moss Peterson Olson Oeffling Shaffer Totals Woodstock: Merwin Beth Jensen Ward Brown T. On Wednesday the teams walked over to McHenry Junior High in 11 degree weather to play a non-conference game. The 7th grade team won 36-11. Kathy Sabatka scored 15 points, Linda Aim 8, and Karen Truckenbrod 7. A strong defense led by Cindy Tonyan, Judy Snyder and Karen Truckenbrod kept the McHenry Jfmior High scoring down. The 8th grade team lost 36-25. The defense led by Carol Herrmann, Sue Butler, Carrie Freund and Mary Foley could not stop the Junior High team for scoring. Carrie Freund was the leading scorer with 6 points while Mary Foley, Sue Butler and Carol Herrmann each contributed 4 points. On Thursday the 7th grade team traveled to Fox River Grove to play Countryside to break the tie for first place. Our girls played very hard but lost 27-18. Cindy Tonyan led the defense while Kathy Sabatka scored 14 points. The team played a very good season and has taken second place in the conference.
