I'M.I .. 1*1 \I\W \ I . E K -'FRIDAY. APRIL 22.1977 \ * v -a Rainy Day Sport ...but it appears to beunnoticed by these golfers at the Chapel Hill Golf club late Tuesday afternoon. The unidentified lady at the bottom left, hung her umbrella on her golf bag as she made her approach shot to the number nine green. The twosome at upper right in photo have just finished putting on the number five green. If you take a close look, you will discover that they are from the P.E. department of East campus. They are El Partenheimer and Vern Petersen. If you asked them if it was raining, thev will more than likelv denv it. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) EARL WALSH * ANYBODY FOR SOFTBALL, GIRLS0 -- » They have organized a Women's Softball League in Woodstock and are looking for players from throughout the county. '« If you are 16 years old or older, you are invited to go to the Woodstock City Park at 1:30 p.m. on April 24 and May 1. If that siren blows much more, we will have to have full time firemen. • We are getting used to the Rescue Squad signal. Seems they are always rushing to help Somebody. * t Any support to those organizations is well deserved. ¥ % • Just when we warned you to watch for the fleet footed Systrom to break into the White Sox lineup, they shipped him out. * Bill Veeck must have lost our phone number. He never calls for advice. As this is written, the Sox are in first place. No calls from Cub fans So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR Our rhubarb is coming up fine, thank you. 'But. only one lonely stalk of asparagus has broken through. Wait until that Biff-Bang-Pop corn gets started. The more I read those directions, the more work shows up. There is even a picture to help tell the seedlings from the weeds "Isn't this pretty0", asked the girl in my life. Looking at the ad showing Paris fashions for our women folk. I questioned "Aren't these fall clothes0" Sure they were. Where did our summer go0 You have seen a story about Bill Hutchinson retiring from coaching wrestling at McHenry high We said it right here years ago and say it again -- "Hutch " is a credit to our school and coaching staff. He will continue in in tramural and other phases of developing our students. He will be busy, but not THAT busy Jim Pavton is a White Sox fan -- all the way. He had to be when growing up on Chicago's south side, southwest or someplace around there. Jim's fine 01' Dad wouldn't have let him put his feet under the dinner table if he was anything but a Sox booster. So you can't blame Jim for being proud that Chevrolet is one of the sponsors of Sox broadcasts on WMAQ radio. We aren't out to advertise a radio station, but WMAQ is the first in the nation to broadcast major league baseball on a daily basis. Another first. They signed Milwaukee's Mary Shane to handle play-by-play part time. While Mary is no threat to the irrepressible Harry Caray. she does add a little spice. The entire cost of this varied program--including sponsors' salaries is $1,200. Trophies"are not awarded but ribbons jWe often given to winning teams and individuals.
