Looking For A New Queen McHenry county fairgoers will see a special display at the 1977 McHenry County fair. Located in BuildingD, one of the main exhibit halls, is a gallery featuring all the beautiful young women who have worn the Miss McHenry County crown. The photographs have been taken through the years-since 1949-by Don Peasley and are the official photographs from his historic gallery. The exhibit was prepared by the Fair association to preserve these photos and to give recognition to the young people from so many county communities over the years who helped enhance the fair by their participation in the beauty pageant. PET F4 * GROUP. INC P.O. BOX U3 McHitMY ILL tOOSO 815/385 1771 Take another look! she's all woman. She's 5 feet, 4lie inches tall. She weighs 118 pounds, measures 35-24-35 and has brown hair and brown eyes. Who is she? You'll see her-or her thirteen parts-at the Miss McHenry County pagean because that description fits a composite beauty built from the actual candidates who will vie Wednesday evening at the McHenry County Fair. Eight of the thirteen can didates have brown hair, or shades of brown. They range in height from 5-2 to 5-8 and in weight from 105 to 128 pounds. Three are 5-6 or taller: Maggie Grant, Miss Lake-in- the-Hills, is 5-6; Kim Murphy, Miss Cary, is also 5-6; and Kathy Soland, Miss Richmond, is the tallest at 5-8M>. There are four blondes in the field of thirteen -Kathy Soland, Miss Richmond; Kim Murphy, Miss Cary; Tamee Baker, Miss Wonder Lake; and Cherie James, Miss Algonquin. It is difficult to ascertain which candidate most nearly "fits" the composite .\ description, but Beckie Harm, Miss Huntley, 5-5; 120-pound beauty who has auburn hair and brown eyes comes closest. The participation of all these beauties is possible because local sponsors join with the McHenry County fair to present this pageant on the opening night of the fair at Woodstock. Winners through the years have come from several communities. Here is a list of previous- winners: 1949: Marilyn Thomsen, Woodstock. 1950: Carol Buethe, Marengo. 1951: Alison Pringle, Marengo. 1952: Patricia McFarland, Harvard. 1953: Charlotte Hogan, Ringwood. 1954: Judy Freund, McHenry. 1955: Frances Hoda, Fox River Grove. 1956: Carol Hanson, Heborn. 1957: Beth Smith, Wonder Lake. 1958: Nancy Berlin, Wood stock. 1959: Susanne Budde, Crystal Lake. 1960: Judy Hans, McHenry. 1961: Patricia Larsen, Fox River Grove. 1962: Gail Marquart, McHenry. 1963: Shirley Sill, Marengo. 1964: Judy Conley, Crystal Lake. 1965: Cheryl Setser, Wood stock. 1966: Noreen Sanders, Rich mond. 1967: I^ake. . 1968: Carol Parrish, Crystal Lake. 1969: Debbie Bradfc^ Har vard. 1970: Lake. 1971: Jeanne Kristensen, Woodstock. 1972:. AUGUST 3, 1977 Expect Big Turnout For County Cat Show Jimson Weed Some of the colonists of Jamestown, hunting for a nourishing local wild food, boiled up glossy leaves that looked like spinach, ate them, and went on binges of hallucinations that lasted for days. Their adventures with Jamestown weed gave name to today's Jimson Weed. Rest of two breeds! Schnauzer and Poodle, popularly called a "Schnoodle". On first sight she reminded us of a Black Star Sapphire; black with gray- white highlights. We named her Sapphire. She is so smart that in less than a day she learned her new name and she eagerly runs to us when we call her. Sapphire was lost or abandoned when we found her and put her in a foster home. We have taken her to our veterinarian for a check-up and a distemper shot. She is healthy, about 7 months old" and almost housebroken. An excellent little dog • friendly, gentle, loves children. Sapphire needs a permanent home where she will be loved and cared for. Please call Pet Welfare. We will help in every way to make this little dog a pleasure to have. Our 24-hour answering service phone number is 385-1771. A good turnout is expected at the McHenry County fair 4-H Cat show set for Wednesday night, Aug. 3, Donna Coss, Marengo, superintendent, announced this week. "We had about forty entries last year and anticipate fifty this year." Clinics have been held monthly for these 4-H children throughout the year. Sessions on the care, handling, feeding and overall good health care methods have been presented to these participants and Wednesday night will illustrate how well they learned these proper care methods., In formation on the various breeds with a special visit from a local veterinarian were in cluded in these educational sessions. " ~ • Judging this year's com petition is Mrs. Elree Kellogg, Marengo, well-known breeder of Manx cats. She is also a publisher of a magazine on the Manx cat and has worked closely with those 4-H children enrolled in cat care in Boone county. Judging begins at 7 p.m., Mrs. Coss said, in the Hanson pavilion. Five basic categories are offered with a best of class ribbon presented for each. They are: A-Kitten--either gender, under 8 months; B- Female over 8 months; C-Male over 8 months; D-Spay; and E- Neuter. Classes will also be divided into long and short hair breeds. At the completion of the class judging a Best of Cat show plaque will be presenter Lottery Winners A total of $182.3 million iti Illinois State lottery receipts has gone back to the state's general revenue fund in the past three years, according to lottery Superintendent Richard W. Carlson. The state lottery has awarded $181.6 million in prizes during that period, Carlson said, and almost $25 million has been paid to Illinois retailers who act as lottery sales agents. Each year designers brine out capes and cape coats but they never seem to go over big with the average woman. Some attractive cape coats are being shown for fall. One woman who dieted o f f ten pounds, discovered several g°°d dresses in her closet that had become too small for her the year before. She let the hems out and was happy over the result.
