The bin itself is a conventional round steel drying unit. However, the southern two-thirds of the outside wall is covered with Blac-Klad -- a new coated steel developed by Inland Steel Company, Chicago -- which acts as a high power solar collector. The nor­ mal method of grain-drying, using LP gas, usually costs 9-10 cents per bushel. The solar bin reduces this cost to 1V4 cents - a savings of $600 in 8,000 bushels.
