These boys were Gerald Miller, Richard Freund and Emil Simon. \ From So I Hear column: hits in a Softball game last week and our box score only shows one. Frank Hughes says we must have stretched a point to give him one hit, let alone two. Anyhow, Petie hit the ball twice and that's somethin'. When Petie walks, he runs. That's right. When the umpire yells, Tour balls. Take your base,'Petie trots to first like a two-year-old colt." Because an alert operator in McHenry's telephone office noticed the woman's excited voice and her strange manner and con sequently remained on the line, the McHenry resident is alive today. For the way in which she reacted to the emergency, operator Mrs. Berniece Peterson will be presented next Tuesday with one of the highest honors which the telephone company can give an em- ployee--the Theodore N. Vail award for noteworthy public service - The citation will be presented at a luncheon held in Crystal Lake. , A tax levyt'of $325,290 was approved on Tuesday afternoon of this week by the county board of supervisors, that figure being $29,185 less than last year. The levy is lower even though the appropriation ordinance passed that morning calls for the largest amount in history. Revenue from other sources than taxes will be higher, this being the reason for the lower levy, according to County Qlerk Raymond D. Woods. The other sources in clude refunds from motor fuel and earnings of county offices. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of September 7, 1967) The City Council meeting on Tuesday night was somewhat routine, it being the first meeting of the month when bills are paid and reports of finances are heard. John Stangarone appeared before the Council seeking permission to secure city water and sanitary sewer service for the Fantasy Farm Day nursery. This area, along the easterly side of Crystal Lake road, has not been an nexed to the city. An ordinance amendment passed last November., permits water hookups outside the corporate limits at a rate of one and one- half times the regular rate, approval requiring a three- fourth vote of the Council. The city has frowned on providing „ sewer service outside the limits so this will require further study.
