After spending the first night in Lexington, Ky., they arrived in Gatlinburg, Tenn. There they took a tramway car into the mountains where they dined 1n Old Heidelberg castle in an authentic German restaurant with waiters dressed in German costumes and an "oom pah pah" babd entertaining the visitors. Outside, summer skiing lessons were available with something artificial doing the work of the snow. A popular attraction in Gatlinburg was Clingman's dome, a 6,643 foot elevation, fascinating, but a tiring walk. Next came Laurel - falls, beautiful with the sun shining through.' They also saw Ripley's "Believe It or Not museum" and a wax museum. After leaving Tennessee, the Scheibs traveled the Blue Ridge parkway through North Carolina and Virginia and on to Rio Grande, Ohio, where they spent some time at the Bob Evans farm There they saw a farm museum, animals of all kinds, a general store, slave cabin, a restaurant with delicious food which they all enjoyed, but passed on the canoe trip through the trails. With many memories of an eventful week, the Scheibs arrived home in time for Kurt's birthday celebration Aug. 27. HAPPY FIRST By special request of his uncle, Steve West, we wish a very happy first birthday to Joseph Lee Lovergine, son of Susan and Joe Lovergine of Mcrtenry\Sept. 10. (and while talking to ten year old Steve, he remarked to us with a twinkle in his eye, "Now I don't have to buy him a birthday present!") GARDEN CLUB PICNIC The annual picnic for the Wonder Lake Garden dub was held in August and co-hosted by Ms. Alice and Leta Clark at their home. A tour had been planned of their nature con servation area but the weather was not in accordance and it rained on and off all day. Hie picnic ended up as a buffet and _ our members and guests outdid themselves with delicious homemade goodies that could rival any goUfmet! Our hostesses were absolute gems to have us share their home and see pictures of their recent travels. One of the members said, "This is such fun: Can't we have a luncheon every mon th?" I guess that pretty much sums it up for us all! TTie next meeting wil) be Thursday, Sept. 8, at 8 o'clock in the evening at the home of Mrs. Fern Mecham, 4512 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake. B. LARGEST SELECTION OF ACCESSORIES & ANTENNAS , by Mary Richards Thousands of Illinois parents have just been through the hectic experience of getting their children back to school. There are so many details to attend to...clothing, shoes, supplies, registration, tran sportation, schedules...the list seems endless! And* of course, we all want our children to have the best we can give them when they begin, or retufn to, school. However, in the rush of making all the back-to-school arrangements, we sometimes forget (or overlook, or post pone) one of the most im portant school aids we can give our children...imflbmizations. We may supp^nthem with raincoats, boot*, scarves, warm coats and other protective clothing. We make sure that, whether they walk or ride to school, all possible safety prcations are taken. If they participate in athletics, we insist that they use protective gear, such as helmets, face guards, gloves, etc. Yet, many parents send their children off to school with no protection against polio, measles, diphtheria^, tetanus, whooping cough, vmumps or rubella. Polio can be crippling. Measles can result in hearing, vision or mental deficiencies Rubella, if transmitted to a pregnant woman, ehn result in birth defects. Any one of these diseases, in fact, can cause long-lasting or permanent damage. And, they can strike any child who is not fully protected. Immunizations against these diseases are awilable to everyone...'rom' private physicians or local health departments. In addition, any Illinois parent who cannot get to a private doctor and who lives in an area where there is no local health department, can arrange to have his or her childrai immunized by con tacting the Illinois Department of Public Health, Immunization Program, 535 West Jefferson, Springfield, Illinois 82761. Remember...you can't be "over protective" when it comes to immunizations. "WE INSTALL" ALL MAKES T MODELS 2604N.CHAPELHIU.RD.
