This season McHenry county is literally glutted with cats and kittens. Cat owners want to dispose of them and there's no place for the precious bits of feline life to be sheltered and protected Life is a precious gift, no less to the cat or kitten than to a person. In McHenry county tax monies are allocated only for dogs; none are set aside for cats. When the Animal Control gets a call to pick up cats they must charge a fee. They are hot obligated to pick them up but have a humane interest in cooperating. However, with very few cases available for cats and no space for more, there is no choice but to give them fatal injections. At no time since the in­ corporation of Helping Paws, some 7 years ago, have they been so frustrated in finding homes for cats and kittens. And, HP can add no more to the list until homes are found for those already on it. What can be done about the problem?
