NEW HOURS McHENRY STORE ONLY SUNDAY. 9 AM TO 5 PM MON. -- FRI 8 AM TO 9 PM SATURDAY . 8 AM TO 7 PM WORKWISE n Questions And Answers My union has been involved in a strike for the past several months. All issues have been settled except for wages and some fringe benefits. We are anxious to get back to work but the company refuses to even come close to an acceptable wage offer. Is there anything we can do to get help from the State Department of Labor in this case? If so, how do we go about it? The Illinois Department of Labor, Conciliation and Mediation division can help you in your negotations. The division can provde an ar bitrator if both parties involved - union and management - jointly request one. An ar bitrator hears both sides of the dispute and makes a decision that is lawfully binding to both parties. If a mediator is desired, only one party -- either union or management - needs to make the request. A mediator will sit in on the negotiations and offer suggestions to aid in reaching an agreeable settlement. Requests for arbitrators or mediators can be made by writing the division at Room 70S, Stratton office building. Springfield, 111., 62706. I live in Illinois but I am employed in Missouri. The company I worked for recently laid me off. Where would I go to file for unemployment in surance -- Missouri or Illinois? Although you were employed in the state of Missouri, you must file your claim in Illinois at the local unemployment insurance office nearest your home. The procedure in a situation such as yours is that the Illinois Bureau of Em ployment Security processes your claim as an interstate benefit. All transactions are made at your local office and then the information is sent to the Missouri unemployment insurance division for the funding of your benefit payment. After this payment is forwarded back to Illinois for accounting purposes, it is then sent on to you. Questions may be submitted to Workwise, Room 705, Stratton Office building, Springfield, 111., 62706. RECIPE By Sarah An Sheridan •noo u Apples to be a n». favorite in fall desserts.
