Here's Modern Answer to a Modern Problem , While today's conveni ence foods save time and work, they have resulted in a flood of throwaway pa per, cans and bottles. As a result, today's kitchen -- to be really complete -- not only calls for aids to clean ing dishes and disposing of garbage, but a way to han dle solid waste, too. And so, the modern trash compactor. General Electric trash compactors, for example, can pack all the trash from an average family for one week into one small, neat package. Without a com pactor, this same amount of trash would fill three or four trash cans. . And with a trash com pactor, there are no more daily trips to the trash can -- a worthwhile conveni ence, especially in the cold winter months. CE trash compactors are easy to use. A lift of the handle opens the door au tomatically and brings out the container for easy load ing. An odor-control spray is released each time the compactor is operated with GE's new key-knob switch. The round container has a convenient carrying handle and can be used with spe cial heavy-duty bags, stan dard plastic bags or no bags at all. The door is reversible for left-hand or right-hand opening and comes with two reversible panels to of fer a choice of colors to blend with nearly any kitchen decor. . A glossy blade door panel or wood panel trim kit is also available as an option. Early California Chriitwn Christmas 1847 was a happy time for Captain John Sutter. Sutter, known through out California as a gracious host, decided to have a Christmas party, and in vited over two hundred guests, including former Commandante General of Alta California, General Mariano Vallejo. Christmas Day, people arrived from all parts of the , valley -- some from as far away as San Francisco. After dinner, the party danced to the strains of a violin, guitar and piano 'til the sun lengthened the shadows to the peaks of the mighty Sierra. As the Christmas party ended, General Vallejo, impressed by the energetic and indus trious Americans, predicted that because of them the future of California would indeed be bright. Only a month later, his predicgog <?ame true . . . for gold was discovered.
