DAR Members-Guests Visually Tour Hawaii Members and guests of the Kishwaukee Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution were taken by Alice and Leta Clark on a visual tour of "Hawaii. Our 50th State" at the November meeting, Monday. Nov. 28. The business meeting began at 11 a.m. at the home of Mrs. I^eonard Belmonte. 328 W. Judd street. Woodstock, assisted by co-hostess Mrs. Jo Gardner. A report on the November round table was given by delegates who attended. Also, members were urged to bring Christmas gifts for Tamassee school boys who live in the Illinois cottage. Following the 12:30 luncheon, Mrs. Vivian Hassett shared information on the part Sarah Josepha Hale played in making Thanksgiivng a national holiday. This short presen tation was followed by the main program on Hawaii. Members were reminded that there will be no December meeting. Any woman wishing mem bership information in the DAR should contact Mrs. R.O. An drew and Mrs. Lester Edinger, both of Woodstock or Mrs. John H. Sehrman, Crystal Lake. Fifty-two members and guests were assembled for the Friendship club potluck dinner and meeting Saturday. Nov. 12, at 6 p.m.. when Pastor Smith said grace. President Morris Crouch called the meeting to order and welcomed guests including Mr. and Mrs. Wittrock. guests of Daisy and Harold Wildhagen; Mrs. Dolores Kreuger. guest of Esther Sims: and Ann Sabie, guest of Florence Colby. Irene and Ed Wittrock are well known members of the congregation and gave the program for the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wittrock did a couple of skits together and then led the group in a sing- along with Helen Creamer at the piano. Harold and Daisy Wildhagen were in charge of the program. There will be a special musical program Dec. 18 and members will be hearing further details on this very shortly. Get-well cards were signed by all for Bill Jordan. Theron Young. Clara Scholl and Mary Butler. Meditations were in two parts with Helen Crouch reading Psalm KM). "The Psalm of Thanksgiving", followed by a most interesting presentation by Fvelyn Smith on her recollections of Thanksgivings past which included chicken, pumpkin pies, mincemeat pies, (served with real whipped cream> and the many other homemade goodies „ prepared by her mother Sarah: the gathering together of the relatives and the renewing of family ties: the singing of "Count Your Many Blessings", Bible readings and worship services thanking God for the Divine Bounty given: and the sharing of fellowship and love. A heritage of beautiful memories, something most had experienced and enjoyed recollecting, par ticularly after listening to the beautiful presentation. The minutes of the previous meeting and the financial statement were read: both of which were approved and accepted. Morrie Crouch had a few delightful stories to tell, which everyone enjoyed. When Pastor Smith was asked if he had anything to say h£ reminded members of the Sunday morning service, and mentioned the new In- tergenerational class at 9:30 a.m. for grandparents, parents, and teenagers which should prove to be very interesting. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary were sung to those celebrating these events in November with Helen Creamer at the piano. Evelyn Smith read an ex cerpt from a chaplains report onj "Mental Age' which was very interesting. ~ The next meeting of the Friendship club will be Saturday. Dec. 10. when Helen and Morris Crouch will have the program and hosts and hostesses will include Cleda and Leonard McCracken, Lyda Radish. Helen and Harry Lundy, and Ann Demke and Gertrude Anderson. The meat committee will consist of Vivian Bassett, Daisy and Harold Wildhagen, Bertha and Elmer Stange. Esther Sims and Florence Colby. Florence Berggren. Alice Holmgren and Ethel and Clyde Bailey. Birthday gifts for the residents of Valley-Hi Nursing home at Hartland are to be brought to the December meeting, wrapped as birthday gifts and marked as to whether for a lady or a man. Morris Crouch volunteered to see that the packages are delivered to Valley-Hi promptly. The Friendship club is a very casual group, open to all members of the congregation, 50 years old or older. Meetings are held every second Saturday of the month (except June, July and August) at 6 p.m. at the church for a potluck dinner followed by a short meeting and always a most interesting program. Homemakers Extension Mission Film Showing , Review Treasurer Bond At Methodist Meeting The monthly general meeting of the United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist church of McHenry, held recently began with a potluck luncheon. The program for the af ternoon was a film strip on the Red Bird Methodist mission in Kentucky. The pictures were very good and the narration excellent. This is the mission where the youth of the church went to help this spirng, repairing, painting and various other jobs all of which they found very, very rewarding: and certainly most enriching in their christian life. Mrs. Marlene Strohman read a poem from one of the newsletters from the Red Bird mission whicn was very in spiring. She also spoke about experiences at the Mission and had literature which was enlightening. She also had data on their craft center, and un doubtedly a booth at the next fall bazaar will feature items from there for sale. The meeting had been called to order by President Patricia Esposito, with a circle count. A letter from Gloria Cassell was read explaining her resignation as christian personhood. She sent her meditations for the meeting, along with a very beautiful poem she composed entitled "Circle". A recommendation from the U.M.W. Mission team (executive committee) was read, suggesting that all monies earned in serving dinners, luncheons, and receptions or parties, be used to purchase needed equipment for the kitchen and dining room,; and to make replacements on old or missing items. This met with unanimous approval. A motion was made to send an additional check to the Elgin District treasurer, which also was approved. Mention was made of the School of Missions to be held July 28 through Aug. 2 and women of the U.M.W. are urged to try to attend, even if only for the one day session. It was reported that three members had attended the Leadership Training day at Cary Nov. 14. All indicated it was informative and will be helpful in carrying out the duties and work of the U.M.W. throughout the year. On Thursday, Dec. 15, the U.M.W. will have a Communion service and Christmas brunch beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Ruth Wickersham will par ticipate in the Communion service, and the Mount Hope U.M.W have been invited. There will be a babysitter in attendance. All the youngsters attending "Head Start" at the church were presented with a pair of hand knit mittens, this being a special project of the U.M.W. The next general meeting will be the Cormnunion service and brunch Thursday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. The November meeting of the board members of the McHenry county Homemakers Extension association was held Monday. Nov. 14 at the Farm Bureau building. Most council members and advisory members were present. Among the items under discussion was the voting on the bonding of the treasurers. President Connie Steffen requested that all units send in their ballots very soon. Unit flags were also discussed and it was hoped that all the units have their banners ready by April to be displayed at the annual meeting. They should measure 18x24 placed on a 36 inch pole. The council's annual Christmas party will be held at Mrs. Edward Stecks home in- Cary. It will be a potluck and gift. exchange, with each bringing a handmade gift. The advisory members were asked to discuss in their units the Save The Sight fund and Pennies for Friendship funds, questioning whether donations should be given to each or to alternate years. Also all members are asked to save and bring to meetings all good U.S.A. cancelled stamps for resale purposes to stamp companies abroad. These stamps buy food for starving children of the world. These will be collected at the board meetings and sent to ap propriate places. The annual All-County day will be held in February and plans are already being made to honor Canada, our neighbor to the north. The next meeting will be Dec. 12 at Cary. DISCONTINUE MOVIES The McHenry Public library will discontinue Saturday af ternoon movies, effective immediately.
