PAGE 8 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY* DECEMBER 7. It77 4 McCullom Lake Mary Jo Farrell t • % 344-1575 Sportsmen Rule Breakers Threatening Now that the snow has indeed fallen, and there is plenty to go around (anyone is welcome to my share), snowmobilers are out in full force. Most of these people are very careful and considerate, and keep on the paths, but of course, there are a few who are inconsiderate and these are the ones who are dangerous. They find it necessary to ride on the roads or across people's lawns instead of riding on the designated paths, or they shoot across streets without scouting for traffic. Mini-bikes are guilty of this, too: I've seen lots of them around lately, even in this kind of weather. If you like this type of ac tivity, please be careful, and obey the safety rules. There are many well-marked trails all around the area for you to ride on, so stay on than and everyone will breathe a little more easily. s IN MEMORIAL Villagers will be saddened to know of the death of a former resident, Edward Brady, who lived at 5110 East lane for some years, and resided in the McHenry area for many eyars. Mr. Brady passed away Nov. 30 in an Oak Lawn nursing home of pneumonia. He had lived in the home since the death of his wife. His remains will rest in a local cemetery, so that his final days will be spent in a place he loved. WHO DONE IT? Somehow, the picture that was hanging in the kitchen of the beach house is missing. It was taken down by the Halloween spook house com mittee to decorate for the spook house, and has not been seen since. If someone inadvertently took it home for safe-keeping, or if you know of its whereabouts, please call Gene Huff immediately. The picture is a montage of photos from the Bicentennial party at the beach in August of 1976. There will be no questions asked; we just want the picture back. v REMINDER The shopping days before Christmas are slowly, or maybe not so slowly, dwin dling, so hurry and finish your shopping. Don't get caught running around at the last minute, unable to find what you wanted for that special someone. Make Christmas more fun for everyone by finishing your shopping early, in McHenry, of course. CELEBRATION Jerry and Jackie Raycraft, along with Denny and Janet Conway, celebrated their anniversary together as usual with a night out on the town. Jackie reports that a fine time was had by all four of the celebrants, and I wont go into any details so Jerry won't kill me. Glad you had a nice time, folks, BEACH GALS Don't forget the Beach Gals meeting, which is Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 at the beach house. Plans for the fish derby will be started, so be ready to hold up your hand when I ask for volunteers for the com mittee. I have some new ways to deal with uncooperative people. ' Someone is going to bring a turkey home from this Beach Gals meeting and maybe it'll be you. Come to the meeting and find out. NEWS ; At least one out of ten Viet- nam-era GI bill students has ) received monthly checks for refresher or deficiency courses taken to qualify them for higher education under the GI bill's "free entitlement" provisions. The VA reports that more than 760,000 persons have taken advantage of the training op portunities without using any of their basic GI bill eligibility. The trainees represent more than 11 per cent of the 7 million persons who have trained under the current GI bill since 1966. Eligible GI bill students may receive full benefits while training for high school com pletion. Others who have completed high school but need refresher or remedial courses for entrance into training, also may take the necessary courses on a free-entitlement basis. This training is not charged to the maximum of 45 months educat ional ly ass is tance available to alljveterans during the 10 years after release from active duty, but not later than Dec. 31, 1989. li A special outreach effort by VA benefits counselors during the past year was credited with a 23 per cent increase in free ent i t lement enrol lments . Repeated contacts are made with veterans with less than four years high school in an effort to interest them in training. Complete information on all VA educational assistance programs is available at any VA office or a veterans' service organization.
