In addition to his diploma signifying completion of 1,000 hours of training, Robin Reed possesses a certificate of merit for an extra-curricular course of study, a Doctor of Motors student citation, and a trophy awarded for perfect altendance. Prior to graduation, he was hired by a local AMC dealership. Winter Seminar Series To Be Held During February The McHenry County Con­ servation district is sponsoring a winter seminar series The 1st Naturalist Seminar series will be given through McHenry County college The world of nature in winter will be examined in four sessions starting Monday, Feb. 7 Each session will feature a guest naturalist discussing a topic related to winter ecology. The seminar schedule in­ cludes, Feb,. 7, Winter Botany; F eb 14. Winter Tracks; Feb. 21, Birds-Winter; and, Feb. 28, Insects-Winter Registration can be done by phone by calling the college at 435-3700 Cheaper Food Stamps Under new rules, effective Jan 1. food stamp recipients whose winter heating and utility bills increase may pay a reduced price for the food stamps according to the Illinois Department of Public Aid. The purchase price may be ad­ justed downward since heating and utility bills leave less in­ come available to buy food. Food stamp recipients should contact their caseworkers to have their cases reviewed to learn if they qualify for the lower purchase price. OF 50 // 0\ V w e.v - _ FEDERATION The second phase of the McHenry County 4-H foun­ dation's membership drive is now under way with members of ^ its board of directors working with 4-H club leaders to form a team of workers to contact business and industry throughout the county. Each leader is being asked to find two or three interested people to assist in this county outreach with a kick-off and orientation meeting scheduled Jan. 26 according to Bo Mc- Coqnell, foundation president. Funds raised by the foun­ dation are used to supplement programs for county 4-H youth. In its first year, the foundation has helped sponsor the annual Achievement night to honor outstanding 4-H'ers (some 235 this year), purchased family oriented^fhaterials for use with younger members for whom regular 4-H leader s par­ ticipation in national 4-H leaders training in Washington D C. to be held in April of next year. Contributions in any amount are welcomed by the group with a minimum of $10 gift making the donor a voting member of the foundation, • eligible for service on the board, and able to vote at the annual meeting Many county 4-H members have worked on the first phase of the membership drive and have raised of $3,000 toward the $10,000 goal set for the "77-'78 budget. Some members will continue working during Phase 2 of the drive. Current members of the board of directors include R.J; Pensinger, MD, Mrs. Charlotte Thompson, Arthur Beard and "Paul Withington. all of Wood- _ stock; Vernon Schiller, McHenry , Atty. The McHenry County Federation had its Christmas Carolling party on Dec. 19 There was a short meeting prior to the party The businer consisted of committee ana Fair board reports. The winter party which will be Jan. 20 in the Woodstock City park was- discussed. Vice-president, J Mike Fritz, talked about the^ upcoming parliamentary; procedure workshop to be held„ Feb. 25. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 and the 4-H members were excited to get carolling.__ One group of carollers sang at" the hospital and the other sang to older folks in the Woodstock area. After carolling in the cold,, the 4-H'ers came back to the; Extension office for hot chocolate and cookies.
