Chicago architect whose oiner well known buildings include Chicago's Ogden House (1837), Rush Medical college (1844) and Tremont House (1877). The years between 1850 and 1870, when the McHenry county courthouse was built, were the most active in Van Osdel's career and from his ar chitectural plans came the first Palmer House, McCormick Block, Second Presbyterian Church and the Old Chicago Court House. Woodstock's jail, built thirty years after the courthouse, once housed Eugene V. Debs. The famous labor leader and socialist was jailed here after the Pullman strikes of the late 1800's. Debs later said that it was during his stay iij Wood stock jail that . he became converted to socialism, and he then formed the Socialist party and was its presidential can didate in the 1900 presidential election. Among Debs visitors in Woodstock Jail were Little Nellie Bly, famous for her trip around the world; and Kfer Hardie, the British labor leader. Gorski Clan Meets TV's Gilligan After a long bout with ton- silitis and the chicken-pox, Tina is getting back to normal. While talking with the reporter, there came a knock on the door and the visitor asked if this was the residence of the Gorski family. With that she received the most beautiful bouquet of spring flowers. From whom? It must be a very understanding secret admirer. We also found out that they, the whole Gorski family, had gotten to meet "Gilligan", Bob Denver this past fall while out to supper. He bought all six children ice cream, and one of the cast came out to Ringwood to visit with the family. Dave Christopher returned home last weekend, after spending 3 weeks in Colorado. Dave was employed to groom cattle for the Denver livestock show. He visited with former residents of our area, Randy Scott and Warren and Marguerite Vandagriff. 'Twas a work and fun filled 3 weeks. Marge Evans is recuperating at home now and appreciated all the visitors and doers while in the hospital. She had the flu complicated with pneumonia. Phone calls and visitors are welcome. Glad you're back in the swing of things, Marge, even though not full time as yet. NEWSNEEDED Folks this is your column, help it.
