NEW CHIEF INVITES PUBLIC TO DEPARTMENT (Continued from page 1) another part-time parking meter attendant. The new attendant will work four hours a day, five days a , week, and brings to three, the number of part-time meter attendants working for the department. Alderman Schooley questioned Pasenelli regarding the enforcement of the city's requirement for vehicle stickers. "There will be a program of strict enforcement for the vehicle sticker requirement," answered Pasenelli. In other Council news, Superintendent of Public Works Fred Meyer reported to the Council concerning the airstrip hearing held last week. Meyer, who had been previously instructed to voice an objection on behalf of the city at the hearing until questions raised by the city were answered, told the Council that he withdrew the objection after hearing the testimony. The city has another chance to object when the zoning change is voted on by the County board. Attorney John Looze of McHenry sent a letter to the city concerning some special tax assessments that had been placed on East campus over fifty years ago. The assessments, which amounted to less than $200, needed to be cleared up, ac cording to Looze, before a sale of the title could be transacted. Alderman Ray Smith made a motion that the city notify Looze that it is not interested in collecting the money if it is still due. Alderman Bill Bolger agreed that the city isn't interested in the tax money, but made it clear that it was by no means an approval of the sale of East campus. "It would be absolutely asinine to sell a school," said Bolger. "We need more schools not less," he added. Smith amended his motion to include that it was not an ap proval of the sale of East campus, and the Council unanimously voted in agreement. BAY AREA ROAD MAY BE FIRST TO BE IMPROVED (Continued from page 1) input from throughout the county. Board Chairman Richard Klemm was asked to send out letters of information, setting a date for the meeting. Support was given to levy a non-referendum of two-tenths of a cent per $100 of assessed valuation for the needs of the McHenry County Historical society. This recommendation was made by the Legislative & Public Affairs committee following a visit by a society representative who expressed the financial needs of this county-wide organization. In zoning action, the petition of E.R. and Rose Whitney, McHenry, regarding a change from "B-l" to "B-2 classification was tabled until the next meeting because of a question of keeping the establishment in question as a package liquor store only. Approval was given to a request of McHenry State bank, under a trust, and Highway 31 Venture, Nunda, granting a Conditional use rather than a "B-l" classification. Support also went to the petition of tlje First National bank of Skokie Trust and Struck & Borchardt, McHenry, for a property zoning change from "F" (Farming) to "E-2" (Estate). The property is located between Rt. 31 and Riverside drive. Regarding a request by Eugene and Dorothy Hughes and W. and J. Huemnan, McHenry, for a zoning change on property near Ring wood, approval was given to classification as "B-l" . (Business), with 'he northerly 5 acres granted a variance for the operation of a well drilling operation and all necessary facilities that accompany it. It was noted that the Huemanns had contracted to purchase the northern one-half of the parcel. Hughes, the owner, wanted "B" zoning for the entire property but in dicated he would be agreeable to the variation. In accepting a report of the Planning & Zoning committee, a one-year trailer permit ex tension was granted to Gear- master, located on Rt. 31, south of McHenry. George J. Schmitt of McHenry was reappointed to the McHenry Township Fire Protection district, his term to run from May 1, 1978, through April 30, 1981. The March meeting was changed from the twenty-first to Thursday, March 23, because of - the primary election the scheduled date. TWO INJURED IN BUS, CAR CRASH (Continued from page 1) A one-car accident on Wilmot road north of Johnsburg resulted in the driver being injured and taken to McHenry hospital Tuesday night. Penelope J. Monthie, Lin- denhurst, 111., told Sheriff's police she was southbound on Wilmot road near Rt. 12, when her car skidded on a patch of ice and left the road onto the shoulder. Ms. Monthie said when she tried to return to the paved roadway, she skidded across the road and struck the guardrail. The car was extensively damaged in the mishap. The driver was treated and released at the hospital. A minor rear-end collision involving two McHenry drivers occurred Sunday afternoon at Crystal Lake road and Route 120. Celia A. O'Brien, 908 Wood street, told city police that she was facing north on Crystal Lake road and had stopped for the Route 120 intersection. She stated that she moved forward to check for traffic, when her car was struck ih the rear. According to the accident report, the driver of the second car, Sandra L. Casey, 422 N. Cresthill, said that her car rolled forward and struck the O'Brien auto as it moved for ward. No injuries were reported and damage to both vehicles was minor. An icy exit ramp at the Galaxv car wash may have been the cause for a minor one- car accident Sunday. O. Edwin Malenius, 2713 Pueblo drive, McHenry, told police that he had just driven through the car wash and as he left, his car suddenly veered to the left as it hit an icy surface. The car apparently struck a gear motor of the wash, damaging the front bumper of the auto. No damage was reported to the car wash HIGH SCHOOL OPTIMISTIC OVER FUNDS FROM STATE (Continued from page 1) receptionist at Central ad ministration office.; An okay was given to ob taining bids for tax anticipation warrants not to exceed $200,000 in the Education fund and $300,000 in the Building fund. These included one from McHenry Lumber to provide lumber in the amount of $1,026.09; and the bid of Alexander Lumber for other relative materials in the amount of $2,810.07. Announcement was made that a scholarship fund has been established for the late Maralyn Levens, English teacher at East campus who was killed two weeks ago in an auto crash. After executive session, two students from East campus were expelled for the remainder of the school year. One student set a fire in a washroom at East and the other triggered a false fire alarm. Negotiations are proceeding between the board and teachers of the district. Following a recent executive session, the board named a member of its legal firm to represent them in conducting the negotiations.
