Wonder Lake Mary Jean Huff 728-0267 Garden Club Plans Officer Installation April's hostess for the Wonder Lake Garden club was Mrs. Helen Gilliland, sub­ stituting for Mrs. Mickey Mettille. Our roll call subject was "Plants You Like in Hanging Baskets", and our program was proposed officers for our May installation and preparations for our Mother's day project. Several of the members were present at the Opera House April 18, for the demonstration bv talented McHenry County college students who uniquely designed and arranged flowers both dry and fresh for our pleasure under the guidance of Mr. J. Whitman. It was a program well worth seeing and the students understandably already have been found positions by many of our local florists. Our next meeting will be Thursday, May 11, at the home of Mrs. Betty Alderson, 2008 North Ridge road at 8 o'clock in the evening. B. Alderson, publicity chairwoman ANNIVERSARY Belated congratulations to Bud and Jackie Schau who celebrated their twenty-second wedding anniversary April 28. SCOUT NEWS The Wonder Lake Boy Scout Troop 145 participated in a clean up project Saturday, April 15, when they tidied up the triangle at Wonder center for the American Legion. This project was under the adult supervision of John Nutter. On Saturday, April 22, the Scouts distributed pamphlets for the Wonder Lake hardware store in a service project. This was done under the adult supervision of Marlene Lund- borg. IN THE RUNNING Among the 3,000 participants in the Bonne Bell 10,000 meters race at Lincoln park in Chicago Sunday, April 23, were two Wonder Lakers. Jayne Mc­ Millan, P.E. teacher at Harrison school and her student, Mary Bazan, com­ peted in the race. Mary finished in a respectable 745 position with Jayne following close behind at 750. BIRTHDAY Happy ninth birthday to Susan Maris, daughter of Eugene and Donna Maris of Oakwood Shores, May 5. HAPPINESS IS... Happiness is...the 7 and 8 grade science students at Harrison school, under the direction of teacher John Quick, and with the help of Mrs. Bagby's roto tiller, making a study of plants from the ground up by preparing and planting a garden on the school grounds. Happiness is..."Grandma" and "Grandpa" Ruggero, taking care of grandson, Adam, while his mom and dad, Louise and Steve Krater, take a short vacation to New Orleans. The new president is John Gacek; vice-president, Lloyd Wagner; secretary, Bill Buhrman; and treasurer, Frank Sweeney. The other board members are William Winkel, Harold Bowlin, and Len Sieracfu,. There will be a meeting this Thursday evening at the community house, 1717 Sunset. The meeting will start at 8 p.m. They need help in forming various committees so do plan to get involved in your com­ munity and attend this meeting. LAKE NEWS The McCullom Lake Con­ servation club will be having a bake sale May 13 at one of the stores in the McHenry shopping center. The proceeds from the bake sale will go to the dredge fund. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO UMIT QUANTITIES ON SALE ITEMS OFFICERS LUNCHEON This Thursday the members of Lakeland Paris Women's club will gather at the com­ munity house at 11:30 a.m., then proceed to Branded Steak House for the annual Officers luncheon. A festive afternoon is planned and reservations should be made by calling Lyda Radisch. The woman of the year award will be presented and a financial report pertaining to the luncheon last week will be read. - It promises to be a fun af­ ternoon. LUNCHEON A SUCCESS! Last Wednesday was a beautiful day and many people wanted to be out in the fresh air and sunshine. Where did all these happy folks go. They went to the Lakeland Park Women's club Luncheon and Card party! This year's gala event was a huge success and club mem­ bers are delighted. The new craft bazaar was a crowd pleaser and, of course, everyone was anxious to see who would win a prize. It was indeed a fun day for everyone who attended. A SPECIAL DAY Two young men from our area enjoyed a very special day recently. They made their First Communion at St. Mary's church Sunday, April 23. Bill Etheridge was the special young fellow in his home. Mom and dad, Marilyn and Al, were proud to watch the lovely ceremony at St. Mary's. Bill's brother Mark and sister Mary Ellen were also in the congregation. Other guests were grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. FYed Fuchs of Johnsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Etheridge of Crystal Lake. Bill's godparents Tom Fuchs and Aunt Loretta Freund were also there to share in Bill's special day. Additional guests at the Etheridge's home were Cathy Fuehs_and Tony Freund and his sons Dan and Greg and Greg's friend Jan. Also on hand to congratulate Bill was Carolyn Scott and her sons Walter and Jeff. It was indeed a very special day for Bill Etheridge. Eric Nylander was the ex­ cited First Communicant at his home. His parents.David and Charlene also thought the ceremony was lovely. Eric's brothers, Jeff, Chris and Timmy andlhefr sister Julie were very proud of their brother. Special guests at the Nylander home for the weekend were grand­ mother Gertrude Gaylor from Newton, Iowa and Eric's godparents Bruce and Barb Gaylor from Princeton, Iowa. The Gaylor cousins Dawn, Carmen and Alan were also here to share the excitement of this very special day for Eric. After the ceremony everyone enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner that Charleen prepared. It was a very special day for the Nylander family. BIRTHDAY GREETINGS April 17 was a very special day for Michael Sweeney who celebrated his seventh bir­ thday. Dad and mom, Bill and Marilyn, held a family partyin Michael's honor at their home. Grandparent's Robert and Evelyn Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Sweeney of Texas enjoyed watching Michael open his many presents. Older brother Jim and sister Cathy joined in singing the birthday song to Michael. On Tuesday Michael had a party for friends at a fast food restaurant. Tim Minor, Michelle Reed, John Gacek, Jeff Pedriana, Jeff Elger, and Michael's sister Cathy with girl friend Vickie Kuglen joined in on the fun. Everyone enjoyed the puppet show including mom, Marilyn and friend Chris Reed. LUCKY WINNER Meg Oakford won a trip to Oralndo, Fla. She took her mom, Petey, to Orlando with her and the two of them had a ball visiting Disney World from 9 to 9 each day. As Petey put it "they saw everything, did everything and ate everything"! They especially enjoyed the Polynesian village with their delicious < luau, visiting Sea World and the Stars Hall of Fame Wax museum and the Mystery Fun House. They loved Wet and wild, E V E R Y D A Y L O W P O P P R I C E S ! MERCHANTS Meg thought the toboggan slide was something else and mom loved the horse with the water pistols. On their last evening these lovely ladies were escored to dinner by Petey's nephew Dan Paulsen of St. Petersburg, Fla. Petey and Meg came home with beautiful tans and really enjoyed their trip to sunny Florida. SCIENCE FAIR Montini school. held its Science fair jecently and a few of our area residents par­ ticipated with some really god# projects. Agnes Holas had * display on ozone, Mary Heritage won a blue ribbon for her display on geothermal energy, and Linda Walinski took first place in volcanos. Congratulations on a job well done! CITY FUN Bev and Linda Walinski took the train into the city to visit Bev's sister Maureen and her husband John. Linda enjoyed riding the buses in Chicago and being with heir cousins John Patrick and Mark. After an enjoyable day and evening together it was off to the Nivens for a family Confirmation party for Kenny.
