Summer Conference Attended V ~ . „ , «4> By McHenry Society Member Mrs. Cris Holton of McHenry was among the many Delta Kappa Gamma members who attended the Leadership Development conference held recently at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Eosemont, 111. Mrs. Holton is a member of the Gamma Psi chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma society International - an honorary organization for women educators. Specialized leadership development sessions were held for chapter officers and committee ciiaiFilieii of the Chicago area chapters. Mrs. Holton attended the. session on Personal Growth and Services. Mrs. Holton was recently awarded a 4-week scholarship to study the Finnish language and is currently visiting Finland. Delta Kappa Gamma members will meet again in July when the Illinois women educators will host the In­ ternational convention being helu in Chicago. During the week of July 23-30 women educators from all the fifty United States and eleven foreign countries will gather at the Conrad Hilton for professional workshops, educational meetings, and an international reception Banquet speaker at the convention will be Nancy Dickerson, known ior her work on Face the Nation on CBS School Registration Dinner Honors Long Time Temhers Six teachers, one custodian ans two boaTu members received recognition from District 156's board of education at a dinner held at Andres' Steak House late last month. <• Each of the six teachers honored has been teaching at McHenry Community high school for twenty years or more.They are Don Blume, Business Education teacher; George Chandler, Science; George Haasl, Business Education; William Hut­ chinson, Driver Education; Don Sea ion, assistant principal and Mathematics teacher; and Jack Vick, guidance counselor. Seaton also received special recognition for his eight years of service as assistant prin­ cipal. One custodian, Adrian Thomas, who retired in January of this past school year after eight years of service, was also honored. The two retiring board members, Catherine Alvary and Henry Nell, were presented plaques from the Illinois Association of School Boards in conjunction with District 156 for their unselfish service to the students of that district. Mrs Alvary was a member of the board of education for the past nine years, and is a past president of the League of Women Voters Nell was president of School District 15 for many years prior to serving as a board member for District 156 Teen-Oriented sf Club Luncheon Slated July 12 Teens will find the next luncheon meeting of the McHenry County Christian Women's club to be of special interest; slated as program speaker is Chuck Beckler, musician and speaker from McHenry, husband and father of two small boys. The lemon juice and rind added to the cake blends with the frosting to give it just the right tangy lemon flavor. Lemon Cake V* c butter */j c shortening 2 c sugar 3 eggs 3 c all-purpose flour Vt t salt Vj»t soda 1 x buttermilk 1 t vanilla 1 t lemon juice 1 t lemon rind Cream better, shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Next fold in flour that has been sifted with salt and* soda. Lastly, add buttermilk, vanilla, lemon juice and rind.
