Before our City Council is a request to annex 385 acres of good farm land known as R.D.G. Backhaus property, located between Crystal Lake blacktop^ Curran Road, and Bull Valley Road. The developers have asked for zoning allowing them to build 1638 units. PRESENT POPULATION OF McHENRY 10,000 \ NEW SUBDIVISIONS UNDER DEVELOPMENT WILL ADD 4,400 R.D.G. BACKHAUS, ANOTHER 4,500 TOTAL POPULATION 18,900 It is clear, then, that McHenry is looking at a doubling of it's population in a very short time. OUR MAJOR CONCERNS ARE: 1 Do the residents of a large subdivision develop enough revenue for the City to pay the expense of the developement or will the existing taxpayers carry the burden7 2 Will this require a new grammer and high school to handle perhaps a 1000 new kids? And. what will this cost you the taxpayer?! Are you aware of how many school bond issues have been defeated in recent years7 3 Is our sewage plant operating at capacity now7 What will a new sewage plant or an addition to the existing one cost you, the taxpayer? $ 4. Who will pay for the increased need for police and fire protection7 5 Does McHenry have enough equipment and man power to accommodate the additional snow removal and summer road repair7 What will this cost you, the taxpayer7 6... A 50% increase in traffic7 Every working day of the week 22,000 cars cross over the railroad tracks on route 120 in McHenry How much more traffic can we bear71 1 Is increased congestion the price we are willing to pay for this growth7 Will our taxes be in creased as a result of this growth7 We feel that to grow too big too fast is to invite economic disaster. For this reason neighboring communities are closing their door to this type of growth. Do you want a better town, not just a bigger town? If so, this is the time to speak up just like the voters in California have done. Tear out this message and send it to the Mayor. Pick up your phone and call your Alderman, and your planning and zoning officials. Talk to your neighbors, today!! x Because on Friday night, July 14, at 7:30 p.m., this annexation will be discussed in a joint conference in the City Hall. Your City Officials are on the verge of making a decision that will have an immense impact on your 4 daily lives.
