When George Rhodes entered his house on Depot street Saturday tlorencoon he was shocked to behold the dead body of Ben Settland ly-- ing upon the floor. The cause of the death was no mystery. The rooms were filled by a strong odor of gas and an iuvestigation revealed the fTact that some of the jets in the ~stove were wide open. Ben has made his home in Antioch for a number of years, doing odd jobs _ around town and living at vorinns nlaces For soma few weeks he has room-- _ Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Special music for the occasion was provided by the High School Orchestra. -- The remains of Frank Carison were buried in the Antioch Hillside cemetery -- Sunday afternoon. Al-- though a resident of Chicago for the past several years the deceased was well known in the vicinities of Antioch, Lake Villa and Fox Lake, the early part of his life having been spent at the Columbia Club of which his father Frank Carlson, Sr.. was proprietor for many years. Miss Goldie Davis spent the week end with relatives in Waukegan and Chicago. e s The Ladies' Aid Society will be entertained at the home of Mrs. Roy Kufalk on Victoria street Thursday afterno0onm, | s Born to Mr. and Mrs. Al Norman on Saturday, Nov. 9, a daughter. _ _Mr. Morse believes the fAigures for the year are very close to normal conditions. Another factor in the increased sale in specials, where the most notable jump was shown, was the large number of improvements com-- pleted adding to the amount to be collected by the cities, villages and treasurer. + The generals sold amounted to $77,760 and the specials $123,205 for a total of $200,965. | A year ago the sale of general taxes reached $54,000 and the spe cials $64,000 for a tola of $138,000. Sale of delinquent taxes, on both general and special, this year ex-- ceeded the fAgures of a year ago by $62,965 according to Jay B. Morse, county treagurer. There prob&bly are several reas-- ons for this enormous increase, ac-- cording to Mr. Morse, but he be Meves the outstanding factor was the larger number of tax buyers in the market this year.
