King's Row Shocks Raymond's. 14-7 King's Row apparently forgot about their second half slump in McHenry Area 12-Inch play, as they put together a 7-run second inning and a 4-run third to easily defeat second place Raymond's Johnsburg Bowl by a 14-7 score In fact, at one time. King's Row was up by 12 runs before a 5-run Bowl rally in the final inning cut the deficit to seven. Eleven batters went to the plate in the big 7-run inning for King's Row Chuck Marke led off with a base hit and went to second on an outfield error. Rick Sorenson smashed his first base hit of the season and the Row began to roll. Tom Whitman flew out to center but Randy Schultz cracked a single to advance Sorenson to second Bill Cable flew out deep to center, both runners advancing, and Jesse Watson connected for a 2-run single Ken Whitman followed with a base hit and went to second on the throw back into the infield. That set up a 2-run single by John Walkington Willie Howard followed Walkington with a base hit and an outfield error permitted Walkington to score, Howard going to second base. Tim Whitman knocked in the seventh run with the eighth base hit of the inning. Marke, who began the inning, ended it with a ground out Raymond's scored their first run in the third when Vinnie Freund. Phil Oeffling and Jim Yaworski all singled with Yaworski gelling the RBI. Row kept the pressure on as they scored 4 more runs in theri half of the third to take a commanding 11-1 lead. Sorenson led off with a double and advanced to third on Tom Whitman's base hit. Randy Schultz followed with a single to score Sorenson and Bill Cable singled to drive in Whitman. Jesse Watson kept things rolling with another single to load the bases Ken Whitman flew out to center for the first out but Schultz scored from third Walkington reached base on an error to reload the bases and Willie Howard hit a sacrifice fly to score Cable with the final run of the inning Raymond's led off their half of the fourth with Wayne Hiller drawing a walk. Don Bentz singled and after Ted Freund flew out to center, Tom Spasojevich walked to load the bases Vinnie Freund flew out to score one run Wayne Frantz followed with a popup to shortstop to end the rally King's Row added 3 in surance runs in the sixth when Willie Howard and Bill Roarke singled and Marke followed with a 3-run homer The ball scooted past left fielder Jim Yaworski and the scoreboard read 14 2 In the seventh. Vern Peterson led off for Raymond's and reached base on an error Frantz and Phil Oeffling followed with singles and the bases were loaded with no outs Yaworski hit a sacrifice fly. scoring Peterson and Rich Meyers followed with a 2-run single Myron Bentz followed with a 2 run homer and the Bowl was 7 runs behind with only one out The next two batters. Regis was playing the game minus two of their bat hitters. Don Prazak was not in uniform because of a Monday injury and Irish DeCicco was out of town. Rick Wakitsch tied the score id the bottom of the second. The Bridge first baseman singled, moved to third on a Tom Les single and scored on Steve Rohrer's sacrifice fly. The following inning Old Bridge sent nine batters to the plate, scoring five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Dave Schaefer, who was 2 for 2 in the game with 2 RBI 's, and Doug Freund hit back to back singles to open the inning. Ron Miller flew out to right scoring Schaefer all the way from second and a wide throw allowed Freund to score and the Bridge had a 3-1 lead Joe Dehn singled but was forced when Greg Freund grounded to the pitcher. Wakitsch cracked a 2-out double sending Freund to third and Les followed with a single for an RBI Rohrer followed Les" hit with a 2-run single and a fly out ended the inning Regis scored their second and final run in the fifth, cut­ ting the lead at the time to four runs George Cadotte led off with a base hit and Hawk McQueeney doubled. Cadotte tried to score on the hit but Greg Freund relayed Dehn's throw from right to catcher Steve Rohrer who made the putout. Freund's throw was perfect and Rohrer did a great job in blocking the plate as Cadotte was stopped a foot from the plate. Scott Stull singled to advance McQueeney to third, and a ground out allowed him to score The winners sent 9 more men to bat in their half of the fifth Five scored as the Bridge put the game on ice, 11-2 Greg Freund singled and scored on Les' 2-run homer to right Rohrer kept things rolling with a double and Tim Althoff singled moving him to third Peno Hester singled in Rohrer and went to second on the throw from center field to the plate. That set up a 2-run single by Schaefer for the last runs of the inning The final Bridge run scored the next inning when Miller led off with a single, advanced to third on two consecutive fly outs, and scored easily when St Regis appealled that he left second base to early Regis attempted a rally in the final inning when Brodin 0 - 2 8 1 doubled to lead off. Matt Olf flew out. but Cadotte singled sending Brodin to third. The next batter McQueeney hit a grounder to Miller at short, who turned it into a double play to end the game. ILLINOIS (815)344-2510 Marian Central high school has selected a Notre Dame graduate who played on the Fighting Irish undefeated national championship team of 1973 to be the new head football coach Principal Thomas Parsley annoijnced last week that Ix>u Miskowicz, 26. will be the new head football coach, replacing Tom Parker, who resigned Parsley also announced that Hans Roukus will assume Parker s duties as Athletic director Miskowicz. prepped at Rock Island high, and was a con­ sensus all-state halfback and made the Sunkist All American high school team He went to Notre Dame and played under Ara Parseghian from 1970 to 1974, and played primarily on defense and saw some action at tight end He earned a letter his senior year Following his graduation from Notre Dame, he returned to Rock Island where he was an assistant coach for 4 years Roukus. who was named head basketball coach last spring replacing Bud Grover, is also varsity tennis coach and cross-country coach Parsley indicated that Roukus will continue coaching, at least through the 1978-79 school year, while assuming the Athletic director position Monday.
