SECTION 2 - PAGE 3 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY. SEPTEMBER 13,1*78 Lakemoor-Lilymoor Margaret Karas 385-4934 Local Family Travels South For Vacation Wally and Joan O'Brien had a great trip through some of the southern states. Some of the interesting places they enjoyed were New Orleans, La.; Mobile, Ala ; Pensacola, Fla., and Texas. It was usually hot during the day, but nights were cool; so they were able to get plenty of rest Glad to have you back all renewed and ready to face another year. Norm and Pat Morrison and daughter Sundae had a quick trip to Orlando, Fla., to visit Pat's father. They flew down because Pat's back was not up to auto travel. The ocean was a great source of pleasure. Sundae's grand father had taught her to body surf when she was little, so she spent as much time as possible in the salt water, riding the waves. Grandfather, at 81, still enjoys doing the same, and was thrilled that one of his grand children enjoyed the sport as much as he did Pat would worry seeing Sundae's head way out in the ocean, but in a few minutes she would be back on shore A relaxing leisurely time was had, even if it was only for a week. Young Anthony Gurske had a great finale to his act this summer. He had a three week trip to New York, the only member of his family to go Automobile was the method of travel to Brooklyn with realtives returning east They stopped at Sea World in Kent, Ohio, to watch ail the great and small water animals The porpoises did their slicing through the water and air, and the huge turtles moved slowly in the sun Then on to visit "Nanny" in Brooklyn, where the Gurske's lived before moving west to Lilymoor Anthony stayed with other friends in New York, very capably traveling around the city by himself The return home on Aug 28, was on a 747, a mightly big plane for a lad to be traveling on all alone. Anthony proved his ability as a traveler, but another test was yet to come Getting down to earth, he got on brother Robert's new skateboard, fell off and broke his wrist And so, another cast for Anthony, the second this year, not to mention the broken nose It's no wonder mother Mitzi had her hair cut This way there isn't so much left to pull out in worry and exasperation SOCIAL NIGHT The Lily Lake Ladies league had their fun meeting last Wednesday. Prize winners at Bunco were, first, Mildred Nejedly, Marie Hyatt second, then Helen Netzel and Helen Para getting booby. Carol Volke and Anna Brzezinski were the hostesses. This club is the oldest organization in our community, having been active for over thirty-five years. Throughout this time, the ladies have given of their time and effort in providing the Municipal Building with storm windows, drapes, fans, coat racks and other equipment. They have helped out with community efforts, donated to the Rescue Squad, and joined in bake sales, corn roasts, and wherever they were needed. In addition to giving the ladies an enjoyable evening twice a month, the L.L.L.L. also serves all of us RECUPERATING Two members of the Hueckstaedt family came home from different hospitals this past week. Chad in Chicago and little Allison in Woodstock. Alma and Bud Hueckstaedt's grandchildren have really been having a difficult time. Let's hope this is the end of their hospital stays for a long time. Ruth Freeman is hobbling around a little better. And get well wishes are extended to Jackie Stromley, also. CELEBRATIONS * Birthday wishes go to Fred Thornton and Ronald Freeman on Sept 16. The seventeenth is the day for Sherril Weber, Laurie Johnson and Wayne Meyer. Mark Betancourt celebrates the next day Harold Nixon, Jr , will have his six teenth year on the nineteenth of September Anniversary couples are Arden and Pat Heald, celebrating Sept. 13, and Art and Rudie Huffman and Bruno and Margaret Karas on the fourteenth Bruno cliams we've been married thirty-eight years, but actually its been more like sixty-eight Happy days and happy nights to everyone CLAIM TO FAME Another eating establishment in Lakemoor has received recognition from a Chicago newspaper. Among restaurants serving French food, con sidered the finest in gourmet cooking by many, our "Le Vichyssois is among the most authentic and delicious in northern Illinois. It is very exciting to have a chef of such stature as Bernard Cretier in our midst Let's see, my an niversary is next week ... COLLEGE CREDITS Maribeth Karas started her junior year at Wheaton college. The two weeks spent at home between summer quarter in England and departure for fall quarter, was too short to share all the excitement, thoughts, and dreams of the past months. Allen Schneidewent is also in college. David and Jeff Blake are both enrolled at University of Illinois. Any other college students around? BITE WORSE THAN BUZZ? Mosquitoes! That little insects can change man's style of living is truly amazing. Have you noticed how the outside suppers are now inside? The picnics are now in screened in areas? The tomatoes and cucumbers are not picked in the evening? A walk in the woods has become a very rapid jog along the road? Mowing the \lawn is no longer just a battle between husband and wife, but between man and insect? Sleep interrupted by a sharp, itching sting? Even a ride in the park requires closed windows and air conditioning? The new scent so many people are using, "Charlie Mosquito Repellent"? Man still has a long way to go in controlling his environment. VILLAGE NEWS Lakemoor has a new trustee. William Sinkler was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by R a y m o n d C y n o w a ' s resignation The board is now fully staffed. Raymond Embrey was appointed director of Emergency Disaster service, formerly called "Civil Defense. Due to the storage of the huge equipment for the sewers, the municipal building will no longer be available for public meetings. The use of the hall in the past has been appreciated by the residents, but Lakemoor is progressing, and less space is one of the by products. Dusty streets, now that the rains seem to have ceased, plague Lakemoorites. The sewer tile installations have made all the streets just gravel and sand. So dust hovers over the whole area, outside and in. The mosquito abatement program is helping. North and east side lake residents are not itching as much as the rest of us COMMUNITY CALENDAR Sept 14--Lakemoor village meeting-8 p.m -Municipal building.
